Jeromini apple variety

Perhaps all gardeners have heard about varieties of apple trees with red pulp, but not everyone takes on the cultivation of such a curiosity. And the point here is not in the difficulty of agricultural technology, but rather in distrust of such varieties in general. But you definitely need to get acquainted with such a miracle of selection. Recently, French scientists from Mondial Fruit Selection SARL presented another novelty with an unusual pulp color to gardeners. It is called Jeromine. Belongs to the Red Delicious group. Origin: mutation of Early Red One Erovan, known for over 30 years. The novelty is not yet listed in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia. But, according to the reviews of the lucky ones already familiar with her, she showed herself very well in regions with a warm and temperate climate, she is well known in Ukraine. In Poland, this variety is grown on an industrial scale.

Description

Depending on the stock and growing conditions, the tree shows weak to moderate growth. As a result, a very beautiful, low and compact plant with a height of 2.5 to 3.0 meters grows. The crown of the apple tree is neat, spherical. Shoots of medium size, gray-brown bark, smooth to the touch. Leaves are of normal size, petiolate, oval in shape, the tip sharpens smoothly, the base is wedge-shaped, the edge is serrated. The color of the leaves is deep green, the surface is not pubescent, slightly shiny. Due to the raised edges, the leaf blade slightly resembles a boat. The petiole is ordinary, uncolored or slightly colored on the reverse side. Flower buds are laid mainly on 2 - 5-year-old shoots, although flowers sometimes appear on annual ones. The variety starts flowering 3 days earlier than Golden Delicious.

The fruits of our hero are a real work of art. The standard and regular shape is classic for most varieties of apple trees. Jeromini fruits can be called graceful due to their elongated, elongated-rounded, slightly truncated shape, while they are absolutely symmetrical. The funnel is of medium depth and width. The saucer is folded, wide, shallow. The skin is thin, but dense, glossy shiny, purplish-red, subcutaneous points are light, small, clearly distinguishable, the greatest number is localized in the region of the apex of the fruit, closer to the base the number of points decreases. The wax coating is insignificant. The flesh of an unusual pink-red color, quite dense, crispy and tender, slightly fibrous in consistency, has a pleasant aroma. The taste is wonderful, dessert, sweetness prevails, and sourness is practically absent. Tasting score from 4.5 to 4.8 points. The average apple weight is 170 - 190 grams.

Characteristics

• The Frenchman Jeromini attracts with excellent early maturity. Apple tree fruiting occurs 2 - 3 years after planting;
• ripening period - autumn. Apples begin to ripen from mid-September. The crop must be removed within a month;
• the productivity of the small tree is very good. The variety is called very productive. 4 - 5 year old plants already bear up to 15 kg, and having entered the period of full fruiting, of course, subject to good agricultural technology, they give from 50 to 80 kg of beautiful fruits;
• frost resistance is good. Mature trees winter well at -30 ° C. But in cooler regions, you will have to insulate the bole and the main branches;
• drought resistance is average;
• immunity is good, especially with proper pruning and care. But, like all varieties from the Red Delicious group, our hero has no resistance to scab and bacterial cancer;
• the fruits of this apple tree tolerate transportation remarkably;
• keeping quality is good. In the refrigerator, the harvest will retain its freshness and taste until February. Longer storage, up to 7 months, is possible in special chambers with a controlled atmosphere;
• the way of use is universal. The unusual flesh and excellent taste make the fruit of this variety attractive for natural use. But the harvest is also suitable for processing - preserves, jams, fruit puree.Apples are even used as an ingredient for garnish for meat dishes.

Pollinators

Jeromini is self-fertile and requires pollinators to set fruit. The best helpers for our hero will be Granny Smith, who bloom with him at the same time and are well known to every gardener, Golden Delicious, Gala, Fuji, Everest.

Planting and leaving

The timing of planting is determined by the gardener, since autumn planting is recommended in the south, and spring planting is more suitable in cooler regions. Suitable stock MM 106 and M9. Care is not burdensome for the gardener. The apple tree should be watered on time (drip irrigation is recommended), fed and preventive treatments should be carried out. Experienced gardeners do not recommend heavy pruning, since the tree does not grow intensively, but sanitary pruning should be done if necessary, regardless of the growing season.

The amazing Jeromini will not only decorate the garden, but also provide a large harvest of unusually beautiful and tasty fruits that can be successfully stored throughout the winter. Due to its compactness, the tree does not take up much space in the garden, in addition, the variety is successfully used in intensive plantings. It is easy to care for and harvest a small apple tree. But you should be on the lookout in unfavorable years so as not to miss the onset of the disease.
