Apple variety Orlovskoe striped
Orlovskoe striped is a late autumn apple variety, bred in 1957 at the All-Russian Research Institute of Selection of Fruit Crops as a result of crossing two varieties - Macintosh with Bessemyanka Michurinskaya. In 1958, the seeds were sown, and in 1966 the onset of the first fruiting was recorded. Already in 1967, the seedling was allocated to the elite. The authors of the apple tree are domestic breeders E.N. Sedov and T.A. Trofimova.
In 1970, the variety entered the State test, and since 1986 it has been zoned (approved for use in production) in the regions of the Central Black Earth and Central regions of Russia, as well as in the Mogilev region (Republic of Belarus). This apple tree is promising for cultivation in intensive gardens.
The Orlovskoe striped variety has repeatedly participated in international fruit exhibitions in the German city of Erfurt and twice won the highest award - a gold medal (in 1977 and 1984). In our country, at the exhibition "Revival of the Russian Village" from the Exhibition and Fair Complex "VDNH-EXPO", held in October 1999, this variety was awarded a Diploma.
Apple trees are characterized by an average vigor of growth and a sufficient level of winter hardiness in the conditions of the Oryol region and adjacent territories. The shape of the crown is round. The main branches, when leaving the trunk, form a right angle with it, the ends of the branches are directed upward. The bark on the main branches is smooth and brown in color.
Shoots are thick, slightly geniculate, with low hairiness, dark cherry colored. Lentils are medium in size, often found on shoots. The kidneys are compressed, conical in shape. The leaves are large, bright green in color, broadly ovate, with a curvature along the central vein, a sharply pointed and bent tip. The surface of the leaf blade is glossy, wrinkled, with deep nerves, slightly pubescent. The edges of the leaves are wavy, with coarse serration. The petioles are thick, colored at the base, and can be medium or short in length. Stipules are small in size, lanceolate in shape, but may be completely absent.
The flowers are quite large, saucer-shaped. The petals are closed, rounded, light pink in color. The buds are white-pink in color. The stigmas of the pistils are located below the level of the anthers.
The fruits of the Orlovskoe apple tree are large or above the average size, the average weight of one apple is usually 120 - 150 grams. The shape of the fruit is oblong, round-conical. The main color of apples during the period of removable ripeness is greenish-yellow, at the time of consumer maturity - golden; The integumentary color is expressed on most of the fruit in blurred stripes and specks of a deep purple-crimson color over a pink blush. The peel on apples is thin, smooth, oily, with a glossy sheen, covered with a bluish waxy bloom. Subcutaneous spots are light in color, easily visible. Peduncles are straight, of medium or short length, rather slender. The funnel has a narrow, sharp-conical shape, medium or more than medium depth, there is no rustiness. The saucer is deep enough with slightly ribbed sides. The calyx in most fruits is of a closed type, but it can also be open. The heart is large, heart-shaped in shape. Open-type seed chambers. The seeds are dark brown in color and irregular in shape; in their structure, they are often underdeveloped.
The pulp of the fruit is white with a creamy shade, fine-grained structure, tender, very aromatic and very juicy. The taste of apples is harmonious, sweet and sour (the acid is felt quite strongly).Tasting assessment of the taste of optimally ripe fruits on a 5-point scale is 4.2 - 4.6 points. The assessment of the external attractiveness of apples is 4.6 points. In terms of chemical composition, Orlovskoe striped apple fruits contain: the sum of sugars (10.1%), ascorbic acid (8.2 mg / 100 g), titratable acids (0.78%), pectin substances (10.7%), P -active substances (212 mg / 100 g).
The period of removable ripeness of the fruit falls on the beginning of September. In a refrigerator, apples are stored for about 4 months (until the end of December), but they can remain fresh for a longer period.
The variety is high-fruiting. The first fruiting occurs in the 4th year after planting (which is much earlier in comparison with the Autumn striped). The yield is quite high and is on average 200 kg / ha. Apple trees at the age of 7 - 8 years give up to 40 - 50 kg of fruits, and 10 - 15 year olds yield 60 - 80 kg of harvest each. The variety is winter hardy and scab resistant.
The main advantages of the Orlovskoe striped apple tree are: a high level of early maturity and yield, good taste of apples and their high commercial qualities, comparative resistance of fruits and leaves to scab.
The main disadvantage is the very thin skin of the fruit, which requires increased care during harvesting.
Apples of this variety have a good taste, slightly sour. One of the trees in our garden is already more than 20 years old, but the fruit comes out every year. However, you have to remove them very carefully, with care, since the skin is easy enough to wrinkle.
I have 2 such trees at my dacha. Fruiting in a year, whatever you do (the soil is loam). Very good looking. When they settle down, they are delicious. Keeping quality is good for an autumn variety. Unripe - terribly sour, inedible. At the time of removal for storage - sour, it is almost impossible to eat them. This is their main drawback.
