Tomato variety Mei Shuai (F1)

Until recently, the industrial cultivation and sale of pink-fruited tomatoes was a risky business. Pink fruits often suffer from green shoulders and cracking, which reduces their presentation. In addition, keeping quality was lower than that of red-fruited varieties. But all this was until the Seminis company made a real sensation in the tomato market by offering tomato producers a new variety - Mei Shuai. The eastern name for the culture was not chosen by chance, since producers primarily rely on the huge eastern market, where, as marketers have found out, they prefer pink-fruited tomatoes. The novelty has not bypassed Russia either. In our country, consumer sympathies are also more and more inclined towards pink fruit. In 2017, Mei Shuai was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia and allowed for cultivation in all regions. The applicant and originator was Monsanto vegetable IP management B.V. The novelty is recommended for growing in film greenhouses and under film shelters in personal subsidiary plots. It is a hybrid, therefore it is labeled F1.

Description

The culture is indeterminate, the height in greenhouses exceeds 2 meters. The plant is of a balanced type, which is already a great advantage of the variety over its competitors. Shoot formation is moderate, foliage is good. Tomato internodes are long. If the variety is grown in low, two-meter greenhouses, it is possible to give the plant a generative type of development, that is, to shorten internodes, with the help of a more intensive introduction of potassium and phosphorus salts. During the growing season, up to 12 inflorescences of an intermediate type can form on the stem. About 7 ovaries are formed in each fruit cluster. The peduncle is articulated.

Mei Shuai fruits are characterized by excellent commercial qualities, and the external data is very effective. The tomatoes are flat-round, even, thick-walled, with a light, attractive ribbing. The skin is glossy, firm, but not thick. The unripe fruit is green in color, without a dark spot at the stalk. When ripe, it acquires a delightful raspberry-pink color. The pulp is fleshy, due to which the variety is classified as "Beef tomato", quite dense, juicy and tender. Seed chambers 4 - 6 pieces. A large amount of sugars gives the pulp a sweet, honey taste according to the description of some tomato growers. In comparison with other pink-fruited hybrids, our hero is perhaps the sweetest. The pulp contains vitamins: B1, C, PP, B6. Tomatoes are large, the State Register recorded a mass of 180 to 210 grams. The originators claim a weight of 200 to 250 grams. At the same time, it is noted that the fruits do not become smaller in the upper brushes. If you leave 2 - 3 fruits on the brush and limit the number of inflorescences, you can get half a kilogram specimens.

Characteristics

  • The early ripe Mei Shuai, like no other, is suitable for obtaining early production, it very quickly begins to form and give the crop. After planting the seedlings in a permanent place, it takes about two months before the first fruits begin to ripen;
  • due to the rapid ripening of the crop, the variety is used in the first and also extended circulation in foil greenhouses, on artificial substrates and on ordinary soils;
  • the yield is very good, according to the State Register, this figure in film greenhouses is 7.3 - 7.5 kg per square meter. The originators do not provide accurate data, but if you carry out simple mathematical calculations, taking into account at least the average number of brushes and the average mass of tomatoes, then the result should be unequivocally impressive;
  • high commercial qualities of fruits are possible due to the tolerance of the culture to radial and concentric cracking;
  • Mei Shuai shows excellent adaptive qualities. Regardless of the weather conditions, be it a decrease or increase in temperature, ovaries continue to form;
  • the variety is resistant to a wide range of diseases.There is a high resistance to tomato mosaic (race 0 - 2), brown leaf spot (race, A - E), fusarium wilt (race 0.1), gray leaf spot, verticillus wilt (race 0). Intermediate resistance to yellow leaf curl, southern rootworm nematode;
  • ripe fruits never have green shoulders;
  • tomatoes are ideal for transportation. Dense consistency and strong skin allow transporting crops over long distances, commercial qualities are not lost during transportation;
  • keeping quality is excellent - tomatoes can be stored for up to 2 weeks;
  • according to the method of consumption, the early-ripening variety belongs to salad.

Agrotechnics

The good performance of the Mei Shuai hybrid directly depends on the correct agricultural technology. Considering that the variety is used in extended circulation, seeds are sown from January to early March. The originators recommend keeping the temperature in the range of 25 ° C - 27 ° C when growing seedlings. It is better to moisten the soil before sowing seeds not with plain water, but with a solution of universal fertilizer. After the appearance of 50% of the seedlings, the film can be removed; in the early stages of cultivation, the first 3 days you need to keep the seedlings under a phytolamp. Plants should be at least 55 days old for transplantation. After transplanting the seedlings into the greenhouse, the temperature must be maintained at about 20 ° C for the first 3 days. Then - 23 ° C during the day, 17 ° C - 18 ° C at night. Tomatoes are tied up on a trellis and formed into 1 stem. During flowering, 1 - 3 brushes are fertilized with Agromaster + calcium nitrate. Foliar dressing: Maxifol ovary + Aminofol Plus, as well as Magnesium sulfate and Iron chelate. During the flowering period 4 - 6 brushes: Agromaster, + an increase in the proportion of potassium and phosphorus. This is just a recommendation of the originator for cultivation in greenhouse complexes, therefore, depending on the specific growing conditions, of course, adjustments need to be made. To accelerate ripening, the growth of the stem is limited after 5-6 brushes, and rationing is carried out, leaving no more than 4 ovaries in each fruit bunch of the variety.

The Mei Shuai hybrid has all the indicators for successful cultivation on an industrial scale - early maturity, excellent yield, excellent tomato appearance, resistance to major diseases. Transportability and keeping quality will allow the goods to be transported over long distances. In addition, the variety has high palatability, surpassing many early hybrids in this indicator. For growing in a personal subsidiary farm, the culture is also excellent. The tomato quickly adapts to changes in the weather, it is quite easy to care for the plant, and the usual agricultural techniques can be applied. The variety is new, cultivated recently, but successfully. Mei Shuai did not cause any complaints from vegetable growers. The only drawback is that it is impossible to collect seeds on your own, seed material will have to be purchased.
