Eggplant variety Bourgeois (F1)
The popularity of various vegetables is determined not only by their taste, but also by their appearance. For example, the Bourgeois eggplant has a rather unusual appearance and impressive weight. One weighty specimen will definitely be enough for a dish for the whole family. Such a miracle was brought out by the specialists of the SeDeK agricultural firm. In 2007, the variety was registered in the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation and approved for cultivation in all regions of Russia. Especially suitable for the southern and central regions of the country. Recommended for personal subsidiary plots. It is a hybrid, therefore it is labeled F1.
Description
A short bush, reaching a height of 70 - 80 cm, nevertheless, it looks powerful. The stem is strong, slightly pubescent, almost purple in color due to the clear predominance of anthocyanin coloration. The plant is semi-spreading. Standard-sized leaf, green, with a notched edge, slightly wavy, slightly rough to the touch. Veins are clearly visible on the surface, also bearing traces of anthocyanin pigmentation. Bourgeois flowers are large, light purple-pink. The peduncle is short and thick. Thorns on the calyx are either very rare or absent altogether.
Fruits are atypical for culture. They are flat-round and look like slightly flattened balls. The surface is smooth, sometimes ribbed. The skin is thin, but dense, slightly glossy, black-purple in color. The flesh is firm, white or slightly greenish. Does not contain bitterness. The taste is excellent. The pulp is characterized by a delicate mushroom aroma and taste. The average weight of eggplant is 300 grams, diameter is 8 cm. But more fleshy specimens weighing up to 500 - 600 grams often grow. In a simple foil greenhouse, up to 10 ovaries can form on one plant, in open ground - up to 6 pieces.
Variety characteristics
- The bourgeois is distinguished by its early ripening period. From the moment of germination to the start of harvesting, 105 - 110 days pass;
- the yield of marketable products is 4.7 kg / square meter, in greenhouses this figure may increase;
- long-term fruiting;
- is resistant to bacterial and viral infections;
- the harvested crop perfectly tolerates long-term storage and transportation over long distances;
- in use, eggplant is absolutely universal. It can be boiled, fried, grilled, baked, pickled, canned.
Agrotechnics
In warm regions, it is possible to sow Bourgeois with seeds in open ground. To create more comfortable conditions for germination, the bed is covered with a film. But it is still better to dwell on the seedling method, which will allow you to get the harvest ahead of schedule. In order to plant seedlings at a suitable time, namely in May or June, planting material is sown at the end of February or in March. Seedlings are planted on the garden bed quite late, at the age of 2 months, after having carried out the hardening procedure.
Caring for the variety is simple and standard for the crop as a whole - watering, weeding and loosening. Many gardeners use organic matter as fertilizer, for example, chicken manure. Preventive treatment against the Colorado potato beetle is mandatory. Ripe fruits should be picked on time so that the seeds do not have time to ripen and harden.
The unpretentious and unusual Bourgeois eggplant is very popular due to its long fruiting period and high yield. Such excellent performance requires only minimal maintenance, facilitated by disease resistance and plasticity.
But during the germination of seeds, gardeners need to be patient. The seed will not rise quickly - from a week to 2. And collecting seeds from ripe specimens will be a bad idea. Second generation hybrids do not inherit good characteristics.So you have to buy seed every year.
