Shantane carrot variety

There are many modern varieties of carrots, much sweeter and prettier than this old variety. But the advantage of Shantane is its reliability. It is reliable in everything from seeding to storage. Its seeds give the most amicable and dense shoots. Young plants grow quickly. Carrots are very juicy, they do not lose their juiciness during the entire storage period. Not too sweet, but tasty. Few cracks. It tolerates a lack of moisture normally. It is completely hidden in the ground - this is important if there are hares in your area, because the root vegetable is reliably protected from their teeth.

I don't really like that the roots are relatively short and tapered. I like long, cylindrical, without a core more. Shantane has a core.

For me, the main advantage of this variety, which is why I grow it every year, is very good keeping quality. Root crops are stored in the cellar until spring. Almost do not rot, deteriorate and do not turn black. This variety is the only one that I keep until the last, the rest are being processed.
