Ildi tomato variety
Small cherry tomatoes have long been an integral part of the collections of many gardeners. These amazing varieties can differ in the shape of the fruit, color. But almost all of them have excellent taste, and in terms of decorativeness, few species can compare with them. Among the many cultures with unusual characteristics, there are outstanding record holders. One of them is named Ildi (original name - Ildi). The variety is not included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia. The selection is foreign, there is no exact information about the origin of the tomato, but one of the foreign sources had information that the variety appeared in the GDR, which means that it would be wrong to call it a novelty. The culture, according to reviews, feels great both in the open and in protected ground, depending on the region, so it can be grown in any region of the country. Our hero does not belong to hybrids. Seed material is usually obtained by vegetable growers from collectors or purchased abroad. But it turns out that it is possible to stock up on seeds thanks to domestic seed companies. Among them are quite well-known agricultural firms Biotekhnika and Gavrish.
Description
The plant is indeterminate, very tall, indoors it can grow up to 2.0 meters and more. On an ordinary garden bed, the maximum height is about 1.7 meters. The bush takes up a lot of space, but not due to shoot formation, it is just the same moderate, but because of the huge inflorescences. The foliage is good. The stem of the variety is strong. Leaves are medium in size, rich green, slightly wrinkled, of the usual type. Tomato inflorescences are complex, up to 30 cm long. Flowers are small, light yellow. The first fruit cluster appears after 9 leaves, the next ones - after 2 - 3 leaves. According to the observations of vegetable growers, in plants grown from foreign seeds, the fruits resemble a wide fan. Bushes grown from domestic seeds are decorated with ordinary complex brushes. By the way, sometimes the volume of one brush can reach 50 cm, and in each of them, at the same time as flowering, tomatoes are tied and ripen, a total of 60 to 100. Ildi is a very hardworking variety, lays more than 8 inflorescences with good care. During flowering, due to the lush inflorescences, neither stems nor leaves are visible, it seems that a bouquet of delicate flowers is growing on the garden bed. But in order not to overload the plant, it is necessary to carry out rationing.
Fruits are attractive, small, weighing 10-15 grams. Yes, the weight of tomatoes is small, but they are taken in quantity. The shape is oval, some growers compare the small fruits of this variety with dates. Many drew attention to the fact that plants from one bag can have different shapes of fruits - one bush with pear-shaped, another with ordinary tomatoes. The skin is quite dense, although it cannot be called tough. Unripe fruits are light green, without a dark spot at the stalk, ripe fruits become bright, rich yellow. The pulp has a pleasant consistency, juicy, aromatic. The taste is wonderful, sweetish. Seed chambers 2 pieces, small seeds.
Characteristics
- Ildi will delight tomato growers with an early harvest. From the moment of emergence of full shoots until the beginning of ripening of the first fruits, it takes from 85 to 100 days, depending on the growing conditions. Ripening in the brush is uneven, while some tomatoes can already be removed, others are just beginning to form. Therefore, harvesting is carried out as needed, without waiting for the entire brush to ripen;
- the fruiting period is very extended. The formation and ripening of the crop lasts until the very frost;
- the yield of the variety, even despite the small weight of the tomatoes, can be safely called good. Subject to agricultural technology, up to 3.5 kg of sweet tomatoes can be removed from one plant;
- the fruit is resistant to cracking due to its dense skin. Resistance to shedding is also noted when fully matured.But, experienced vegetable growers warn that ripe tomatoes should be removed on time, otherwise they may burst, especially if the soil is waterlogged;
- Ildi perfectly resists major diseases. Resistance to top rot, fusarium wilt is noted. True, there is information about the defeat of cladosporium. Culture is not afraid of pests, especially aphids;
- the plant adapts well to unfavorable conditions even in an open garden. True, there are reviews that with a sharp decrease in temperature, the plant can lose some of the flowers;
- if by the end of the growing season there are unripe fruits on the brush, it can be cut off and hung in a room where the tomatoes will ripen perfectly;
- the harvest of this variety can withstand long-term transportation without any problems. But opinions differed about the keeping quality. Some praise her, but there are those who believe that keeping quality is insufficient;
- the way of use is universal. In their natural form, tomatoes are used for making salads. Small bright fruits are especially popular as a decoration for ready-made dishes for a festive table. In addition, the crop is used for whole-fruit canning, the dense skin perfectly withstands heat treatment.
Agrotechnics
Ildi is grown in seedlings. At the same time, many vegetable growers pay attention to the uneven germination of tomato seeds. After the first shoots appear, the rest may appear with a delay of 3 - 4 days. At the beginning of development, the seedlings may look weak, but then develop into a powerful plant. Bushes should be ready for transplanting to a new place at least 60 - 65 days. Usually, sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out in March, but the timing can be adjusted depending on climatic conditions. Considering the spreading nature of the plant, the recommended planting density is only 3 bushes per 1 square meter. Seedlings are planted near vertical supports in order to carry out a garter after rooting. The best yield indicators are possible when the variety is formed in 1 - 2 stems. A large number of inflorescences, of course, pleases, but experienced vegetable growers still recommend rationing them. So, in the open ground, no more than 3 brushes are left (in the southern regions, more is possible, they have time to mature by the end of the growing season), in the greenhouse - 4 - 5 pieces. By the way, it is also recommended to tie up bulk fruit, because of their weight, a break may occur at the point where the hand is attached to the stem. Agricultural technology is simple. It consists of watering and fertilizing on time. As fertilizers, you can use universal compounds and organics. To accelerate ripening, remove the lower leaves under the brush starting to ripen.
Ildi is a very interesting variety that can be grown in any region of the country. The plant will delight those around it already during the flowering period, and at the time of the ripening of the fruits, there will simply be no end to those wishing to watch this spectacle. The bush is very productive, it looks like a tree, hung with unusual fruits. The taste of tomatoes will certainly appeal not only to children who adore sweets, but also to adults. It is not difficult to care for a tall crop, but the garter to the support can cause difficulty, especially if it is carried out late, when the inflorescences have formed. Everyone who has once grown this tomato in his garden will definitely plant it again next year. But the number of plants can already be determined taking into account the use of the crop. If grown only for food, then two bushes are more than enough. But for blanks, more plants will be required. Our hero did not cause any particular complaints. True, sometimes vegetable growers complain that plants grown from the same pack behave differently. Some develop as expected, others are much lagging behind in growth and inflorescences are laid less often, over long distances.A nice bonus is the ability to independently collect tomato seeds for sowing next year.
As a lover of everything original, I asked a friend for the seeds of such a wonderful variety! I use it mainly for conservation, the fruits are small, "one tooth". In our area, it is necessary to plant in open ground due to frosts by the end of May, the fruits are ready by mid-July.
