Cherry variety Fairy
For cherry orchards located in the central part of Russia, the spread of coccomycosis, which is the most harmful for culture, has become a real problem in recent decades. Therefore, the creation of varieties that are highly resistant to this disease is a priority for breeders. At the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Federal Scientific Center named after I.V. Michurina "created a variety of ordinary cherries called Fairy. The authorship belongs to O.S. Zhukov. The varieties Premier and Coral were used as genetic material. The application for registration of the novelty was received in 1993, and after passing the tests, in 2010, it was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation in the Central Black Earth Region (Tambov, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Kursk, Oryol, Belgorod regions).
Description
Medium-sized tree, 2 to 2.5 meters high. The crown is spherical, raised, moderately thickened. Shoots of moderate length and thickness. The leaves are petiolar, elliptical, the apex and base are pointed, the edges are serrate-crenate serration. The venation is pinnate. The surface is smooth, slightly glossy. The color of the leaf plate is dark green. The petiole is medium in size, with traces of anthocyanin coloration. The Fairy's flowers are large, bright, white, collected in inflorescences of 2 - 3 flowers.
Cherry drupes are one-dimensional, round-oval, not too large - the usual weight is from 3.3 to 3.5 grams (according to the State Register of Varieties of the Russian Federation - 3.8 grams). The skin is glossy, colored light pink. The pulp is tender, juicy, has a yellow-pink color. It tastes sweet and sour. Taste qualities are assessed as good, the assessment of tasters is 4.3 points. 100 grams of pulp contains: dry matter up to 15.3%, sugars from 9.4 to 11.1%, titratable acids 1.69%, vitamin C 17.2 mg. The peduncle is not very long, the connection with the drupe is strong, therefore the separation is semi-dry.
Characteristics
- Fairy is fast-growing - enters the fruiting period 3-4 years after planting;
- the harvest ripens in the early-mid to mid-term. Berries are usually picked from the end of June;
- the yield is good, according to the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation, it is 83.2 c / ha. According to other sources, up to 12 kg per tree;
- cherries practically do not form root shoots;
- winter hardiness of the variety is very high. As a result of the conducted studies, it was revealed that by the middle of winter the plant develops a high frost resistance, therefore, when the temperature drops to -38 ° C, the freezing of cambium and wood was only 1 point, and of vegetative buds - 2 points. The variety is also resistant to early winter frosts at -27 ° C;
- drought resistance of the plant is average;
- Fairy's immunity is very good, she is especially valued for its high resistance to coccomycosis;
- due to the semi-dry separation of the stalk, the transportability of the crop is low, as well as its keeping quality;
- the way of eating cherries is universal. The berries have a pleasant taste, so they are successfully used as a dessert, processing and canning is also possible.
Pollinators
The variety belongs to self-fertile crops, capable of independently forming a crop. But in order to help the Fairy to reach her full potential, you can land nearby Lyubskaya, Turgenevka or Vladimirskaya.
Planting and leaving
You can plant a one- or two-year-old seedling in spring or autumn. It is advisable to select a well-lit and dry area with loose and fertile soils. If the soil on the site is heavy clay, then the planting hole is dug in a larger size and filled with a mixture of fertile soil and fertilizers. During the growing season of cherries, at least 3 waterings must be carried out: after flowering, during the formation of the ovary and after harvesting. The 4th pre-winter watering is carried out only in the case of a prolonged absence of rain in the fall. In addition, the care list consists of timely fertilizing (you can alternate mineral and organic fertilizers), pruning, weeding and loosening of the trunk circle.
Fairy is an excellent variety for the central region of Russia.Unpretentious, resistant to fungal diseases and winter-hardy - these are perhaps the main positive qualities, thanks to which the described cherry gains prestige among gardeners. The disadvantages are very minor - light color of cherries and poor transportability due to semi-dry separation.
