Apple variety Pepin London
As far back as I can remember, this old variety has always grown in our garden. For some reason, we considered it to be winter, although now I understand that the definition of late autumn is more suitable for it. We do not store these apples longer than January. They do not deteriorate so quickly, but they become loose, tasteless and lose their juiciness.
During harvest, the fruits are green and then turn yellow, with a slight pink blush near the tail. The skin is smooth. Medium sized apples. The taste is excellent. I like them for the perfect combination of acidity and sweetness. Pepinki can be called a sweet variety, but they are not sugary sweet. Adequate acid content enhances their taste. They are also used for apple diets. My grandmother taught me how to treat small stomach ulcers and gastritis with peps. To do this, you need to eat 1 kg of peeled apples in the morning on an empty stomach, during the first half of the day, and then do not drink or eat anything for 3 hours. In the afternoon, you can take diet food and drink water. The treatment lasts 2 weeks.
In rainy years, black spots appear on the peps. Also, the disadvantages include the fact that these apples very quickly absorb any unpleasant aromas. They cannot be stored close to vegetables, they instantly acquire the smell of the cellar. We put them in wooden boxes, sprinkle them with hay and keep them in a cold pantry. Sometimes we ferment.
And yet, not far from Pepin London, we have a Boyken apple tree. Pepin definitely needs a pollinator, otherwise the harvest will be zero.
