Cabbage variety Atria (F1)
Atria is a hybrid of White Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. Capitata) of late ripening from the Dutch breeding company Monsanto (Monsanto Holland B.V.). In 1994 it was included in the state register of the Russian Federation for the Central Black Earth Region (Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Tambov regions). This variety is supplied to the Russian market under the brand name of the Seminis agricultural company, which is a subsidiary of Monsanto. The authorship is assigned to N.N. Dunenkova, L.V. Emelyanova and O.P. Varivoda.
This cabbage is distinguished by its high plasticity, amicable crop formation, excellent standing preservation and high morphological uniformity of plants. Suitable for growing to market the crop. The period from full germination to harvest is 135 - 145 days, from planting seedlings in the ground - 120 - 125 days.
Leaf rosette of medium size, compact, semi-raised. Leaves are concave, medium-sized, broadly oval or obovate, dark gray-green in color with anthocyanin bloom; blistering of leaves is weak or absent; waviness and notching of the edge of the leaf blade are absent; strong wax coating; the middle vein is concave, light green.
Heads of cabbage are half-open, leveled, very dense, round or flat-round in shape, with an average weight of 2 to 4 kg (maximum - 8 - 10 kg). Covering leaves are gray-green with anthocyanin bloom. The inner stump is short or medium in length. The internal structure of the head is fine to medium. The yield of commercial heads of cabbage is 350 - 1000 kg / ha.
This hybrid is characterized by resistance to gray mold, fusarium wilt (race 1), head cracking and good field tolerance to thrips. Not picky about mineral nutrition and soil fertility.
Despite the fact that this is a late variety, Atria is not stored for very long - no more than six months (until February - March). However, under optimal conditions it can be stored until summer. This cabbage is intended for pickling, but it is also perfect for fresh consumption and the preparation of culinary delights (cabbage rolls are especially tasty and tender). The taste qualities of fresh and canned products are good and excellent. The heads of cabbage gain juiciness during storage.
Advantages of Atria cabbage: unpretentiousness, stable yield, long-term storage, excellent taste, very high resistance to cracking, transportability and marketability.
I have been growing atria for about 10 years. Pleases with a constantly stable harvest. Heads of cabbage are dense, white on the inside, covered with whitish-green leaves on the outside. There was no case that the heads of cabbage cracked in the garden. This variety is universal - suitable for fermentation, preparation of winter salads, storage. And pies stuffed with this cabbage are simply delicious. Stored in the basement until March, but we usually eat it earlier. To make the heads of cabbage large, before planting, I fertilize the garden well with organic matter - the more nutrition, the larger the head of cabbage will be. I grow seedlings myself - it's more reliable. I make a bed for cabbage with a small groove-groove in the middle - when watering, the water does not spill onto the paths, but is collected in this groove. You can put a board in this groove, on it a hose for irrigation and water will flow along the board to each plant.Cabbage loves loosening after watering, but I cover the ground with a thick layer of dried grass. This prevents moisture evaporation and the soil under the mulch is always loose. Atria is a great variety and has never let me down.
