Potato variety Kamensky

Kamenskiy is a table variety of potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) of early ripening. Bred by breeders of the Ural Research Institute of Agriculture. In 2009 it was included in the state register of plants of the Russian Federation. Approved for cultivation in three regions of the country: Volgo-Vyatka, Ural, West Siberian. Differs in high productivity, a large number of tubers in the nest, resistance to mechanical damage and drought. It is rarely affected by the Colorado potato beetle.

The period from full sprouting to ripening is 50-60 days.

The plant is tall, of an intermediate type. Stems are semi-erect or erect, pigmented. Leaves of medium size, hard, intermediate type, dark green color. Strong waviness is observed along the edges of the sheet plate. The inflorescence is many-flowered, very large. The corolla is large, red-violet in color, the intensity of the anthocyanin coloration of its inner side is medium or strong, the blue tint is very weak or absent.

Kamensky has a powerful root system, 15-25 uniform, leveled tubers can form in one nest. The average mass of commercial copies is noted in the range of 96-108 grams, but often the weight can reach 130, and sometimes 180 grams. Tubers are elongated oval. The peel is strong, two-layered, red in color, has a slightly reticular structure. The pulp is light yellow in color. The eyes are small, superficial.

The potato proved to be excellent during the state tests. Marketable yield was recorded at around 185 kg / ha, at the level of indicators of varieties Leader and Rapid. During the first digging, on the 45th day of the growing season, 95 c / ha were obtained, which is comparable to the Skoroplodny standard. At the second digging, on the 55th day after full germination, we managed to collect 176 c / ha, 40 c / ha higher than Skoroplodny standards. The best yield was recorded in the Orenburg region - there were received 252 centners of tubers per hectare of area, 94 centners / ha more than Skoroplodny results. According to the originator, the potential yield can reach 480 c / ha, some sources report about 550 c / ha. Marketability 85−94%, keeping quality is excellent - 97%.

Our hero's taste is very good. Kamensky is suitable for the preparation of any dishes, has an average boil-over. The experts rated its taste at 4.8 points on a 5-point scale. Tubers are great for frying, boiling, baking, stewing, stuffing. Can be used as an ingredient in salads, vegetable mixes and soups. The pulp has a very pleasant consistency, not watery, rather crumbly, contains 12.2-16.8% starch.

The variety can grow in a wide variety of climatic conditions, on various soils, and is perfectly adapted to the harsh climate of the tolerance regions. It has good drought resistance, but responds well to watering. Potatoes are not picky about soil fertility, but they will definitely respond to additional fertilization with an increase in yield. In care, the variety is unpretentious, does not require special attention to itself, but there are several nuances that will have a very positive effect on the amount of the crop.

  • Plants require regular loosening of the soil. Regular does not mean daily, but it is clearly not worth neglecting this event.
  • It is advisable to maintain soil moisture at the proper level. Although our hero is drought-resistant, he will endure a strong drying out of the soil very painfully. Watering may not be necessary during rainy seasons.
  • Timely preventive treatments for diseases and observance of crop rotation are highly desirable. Plants are moderately resistant to late blight, they manage to yield the crop before it appears, however, when planting on a site after other nightshades, the likelihood of potato infection with this disease increases.

Kamensky is resistant to cancer, wrinkled and banded mosaics, leaf-rolling virus. Susceptible to golden cyst nematode.Medium resistant to late blight in tubers and tops. A feature of the variety is resistance to eating by the Colorado potato beetle. And the reason for this is not genetic modification, as is commonly believed by the people, but the rigid dense structure of the leaves. Beetles will settle on this variety only when there is nothing more to eat. Thus, our hero is not a genetically modified organism and is absolutely safe.

This potato has proven itself very well both in small household plots and in the production areas of large agricultural firms. Gardeners especially appreciate its high yield, excellent taste, ease of care, drought resistance, and especially invulnerability to the Colorado potato beetle. A separate point should be noted the resistance of tubers to mechanical damage, which makes Kamensky suitable for cultivation on an industrial scale using the technology of machine harvesting.

Also noteworthy is the excellent keeping quality of tubers. It is worth mentioning one nuance associated with this point. For better preservation of potatoes, the originator recommends maintaining a temperature of + 2 + 3 ° C in the storage. If the thermometer rises higher, the tubers will begin to sprout. If you look from the other side, the mild dormant period of tubers is a plus - before planting, the seed material can not be germinated, although this event is still recommended for better germination and shortening the growing season.

Kamensky can give two crops per season with proper agricultural technology. In cool climates with short summers, this is not always possible, but there are many different growing technologies that allow you to get a “double” crop in time.

The disadvantages of this potato include susceptibility to the golden cyst nematode. But this problem can be solved by timely implementation of preventive measures. Thus, our hero can be called one of the best representatives of domestic early-maturing varieties, zoned in regions with a difficult climate.
