Spiridon is a medium-ripening Russian table potato variety (Solanum tuberosum). Bred by specialists of the South Ural Research Institute of Horticulture and Potato Growing. In 2007, it was included in the state register of breeding achievements of the Russian Federation. Zoned in the Ural region (Republic of Bashkortostan, Kurgan, Orenburg, Chelyabinsk regions). Gained popularity in small summer cottages and in farms. Differs in stable productivity even in the most unfavorable seasons.
The period from the emergence of full shoots to harvest is 90-110 days.
The plant is tall, erect or semi-erect. Leaves of medium size, intermediate type, dark green color. Low intensity waviness is noticeable along the edges of the leaf plate. The corolla is medium, red-violet.
Spiridon has a rather powerful root system, on average 10-16 tubers with a mass of 106-140 grams each are formed in one nest, there are very few small things. Oval tubers. The peel is red, smooth to the touch. The pulp is yellow. The eyes are very small and superficial.
The potato showed itself well during the state variety trials. Marketable yield was recorded in the range of 138-278 kg / ha, which is at the level of indicators Lugovskoy and Krasnopolsky. The largest amount was obtained in the Kurgan region - 392 centners of tubers per hectare of area, which is comparable to the standard Nikulinsky... Spiridon's taste is excellent. The tubers are moderately digestible; they do not lose their pleasant yellow color during heat treatment and cutting. The finished pulp is crumbly, the starch content in it is 11.9-15.8%. Potatoes are suitable for preparing any dishes, they will show themselves perfectly both in fried and boiled form, in mashed potatoes and in soups.
The variety is perfectly adapted to the conditions of the Ural region. It can be safely called one of the best results of the work of the Ural breeders. Potatoes are undemanding to soils, but they respond well to increased doses of organic and mineral fertilizers. The main advantage of our hero is a stable yield, which does not depend on the weather conditions of the season. Spiridon is unpretentious in leaving, he needs only the most standard measures - weeding, hilling, loosening the soil, watering and feeding. Due attention should be paid to preventive treatments against pests and diseases, and you should not neglect the observance of crop rotation on the site.
Our hero is resistant to rhizoctonia, common scab, cancer. According to the observations of specialists during state tests, it is not prone to damage by a golden cyst nematode. According to the All-Russian Research Institute of Phytopathology, it is moderately resistant to late blight pathogen in tubers, and susceptible to tops. Do not neglect timely preventive measures! Also, a couple of weeks before harvesting, you can mow the tops to avoid infection of the plants with late blight.

We have been growing this potato for several years. We are very pleased with this variety, half of the potatoes we grow are Spiridon. The potatoes are tasty, crumbly, very large, there are four to five large potatoes in the nest (there are almost no trifles, there is nothing to put aside for seeds, all the tubers are large, you have to cut them for planting). Spiridon shows himself well in different years, even in the most lean. In our conditions, it turned out to be the most reliable.
