Arosa strawberry variety

Arosa is a non-repairable variety of garden strawberries (strawberries) of medium late ripening, universal use. Was bred by Italian specialists by crossing varieties Marmalade and Chandler. It is appreciated for its high yield, excellent taste and excellent presentation of the berries. Our heroine is zoned for a mild temperate continental climate, in such areas it is suitable for growing in open ground, in colder regions, cultivation in protected ground, tunnels and greenhouses is desirable. The recommended soil and climatic zone is forest-steppe. Arosa is popular in its homeland, and has also gained a good reputation in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.

The plant is vigorous, outwardly very similar to Clery, rather sprawling. Usoobrazovaniye is moderate, sometimes even meager. Leaves are slightly wrinkled, pubescent, light green in color. The petioles are pubescent. The flowers are white, bisexual, large. Strawberry flower stalks are high, located above the level of the leaves, under the weight of the harvest they are laid on the ground.

The berries of Arosa are large, spectacular, of the correct rounded-conical shape, very uniform in the total mass. The skin is bright red, with a slight orange tint, with a very intense shine. Achenes yellow, superficially impressed. The pulp is red, dense, juicy, with a pronounced strawberry aroma, giving off fruity notes. At the stage of technical ripeness, the tip of the fruit is not completely colored; when ripe, the whole berry has a uniform red color.

The variety has excellent taste, the fruits are very sweet, with a slight tonic sourness, the taste palette is harmonious. However, not on all soils and not in every climatic zone, Arosa shines with taste, someone complains about its complete absence, while others praise for its versatility and severity. Strawberries are versatile in use, excellent fresh, suitable for any kind of processing, suitable for freezing, perfect for decorating desserts. The transportability of the berries is at a high level, our heroine is suitable for growing for commercial purposes.

The average weight of fruits in the season is 30-35 grams, at the first harvest, the berries are larger - up to 45 grams. Fruiting of strawberries is quite stable, the fruits are one-dimensional, they are not inclined to become shallow by the end of the harvest, with competent agricultural technology, of course. Ripening starts around mid-June, when the harvest of the early varieties is already over, which makes it possible to extend the berry conveyor by 14-20 days. The yield of the variety is high, it is possible to harvest about 220 centners of fruits from a hectare of area, from one bush the yield of berries is more than 1 kg. Variety of intensive type, therefore such high results can only be achieved through very competent care.

Arosa's immunity is not bad, at the level of standards, but strawberries do not feel well in all regions - the reviews are rather contradictory, in some it grows calmly and bears fruit without any treatments, in others it gets sick even with timely prevention. In short, it is better not to neglect preventive measures in order to avoid surprises. The winter hardiness of the variety is quite low, in the northern regions its cultivation can already be called extreme, even in Central Russia it needs good shelter in the winter, as well as in the spring. Drought resistance and heat resistance are average, but it is better to provide plants with regular watering and shading, if necessary. In general, our Italian heroine is very gentle, reacts negatively to all kinds of weather disasters, therefore, maximum productivity can be achieved only when grown under controlled conditions with almost perfect agricultural technology.

In leaving, Arosa is very whimsical, requires high-quality and timely implementation of all the necessary measures. This is an intensive type, so a simple pattern is relevant for it - the better you take care of it, the more response you will get.Caring for this strawberry is standard for the culture as a whole, from the nuances - the plants need regular abundant watering and high-quality timely feeding.

Arosa is a worthy variety that can interest strawberry lovers living in regions with a mild temperate continental climate. In such conditions, our heroine really lives up to expectations, pleases with both yield and taste. But in areas with a rather problematic climate, an Italian sissy can already disappoint you with her whims, having suffered a complete fiasco in comparison with even less productive varieties. The choice, of course, is up to you, but in regions with a harsh climate, it is still better to use varieties that are more adapted to extreme conditions.

The variety is very tasty - one of the best for me. The berries grow large, beautiful - brightly colored, without a "white" nose, but they are very dense (if the strawberry is not ripe, then a crunch is heard when biting). This property allows you to perfectly transport the fruits, and even this strawberry can be frozen - when defrosting, it does not lose its shape at all and can be used to decorate cakes and desserts with it. The variety has a big drawback - the bushes do not tolerate the winter well (they often freeze or die), but I adapted - I grow the bushes in shallow trenches, in the fall I throw the bed with fallen leaves and sprinkle it with soil.
