Carrot variety Vitamin 6
Carrots are a versatile vegetable used for salads, main courses, and even desserts can be made from it. And it is stored practically until the new harvest. True, not every variety can boast of keeping quality. Only medium or late varieties of your favorite vegetable are laid for storage, the list of such varieties consists of old and new ones. But, according to reviews, most of the gardeners who have tried out the new products still return to the already proven ones, such as Vitamin 6. It was developed at the Scientific Research Institute of Vegetable Economy (now the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Growing). Origin: Amsterdam and Tuchon x Nantes of foreign origin. This type of carrot was registered in the State Register back in 1969, and is still there. Recommended for growing in a large territory of Russia: North, North-West, Volgo-Vyatka, Central, Middle Volga, Nizhnevolzhsky, Ural, West Siberian, East Siberian, Far East regions and Central Black Earth region. The exception is the North Caucasian region. Also, our heroine is well known in Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Ukraine.
Description
The variety belongs to the transitional cultivar Berlikum-Nantes. The leaf rosette is semi-standing, it can reach 48 cm in height and 41 cm in diameter. The rosette consists of 8 - 12 leaves. Carrot leaves are long-petiolate, strongly dissected, the type of segments is lanceolate, deep green in color. The shape of the root crops is cylindrical, slightly thickened, with a blunt tip. If we compare it with Nantes, then our hero has a thicker and longer root crop - from 15 to 20 cm, a diameter of about 5 cm. The surface is smooth, covered with shallow and small eyes. Filiform lateral roots are present in small numbers. The pulp is crispy, tender, sugary, with a high content of juice. The core is small, round or star-shaped. The color of the pulp and core is deep orange. The taste is excellent. The variety is considered one of the sweetest. 100 grams of pulp contains: sugar about 11%, carotene 17 - 22 mg. Root weight from 61 to 160 grams.
Characteristics
- In terms of ripening Vitamin 6 is a typical mid-season variety. Depending on the region of cultivation, the stage of technical ripeness can occur on the 85th or 110th day;
- carrots do not skimp on the harvest. From one square meter, you can collect 6.0 - 8.0 kg of selected vegetables;
- the cold resistance of the culture is commendable. The variety shows excellent reliability even in the area of risky farming. Shows resistance to low temperatures, especially in the absence of premature flowering;
- immunity is not strong enough. Resistance to the main diseases of culture is not as high as we would like. But a big problem can be avoided if preventive measures are carried out on time and in full;
- another problem can be root cracking, which occurs due to poor agricultural technology. And such a crop will no longer be stored for a long time;
- vegetables are strong, do not break during harvesting. They have excellent transportability;
- keeping quality is excellent, the variety is suitable for winter storage. Experienced gardeners, allowing the root crop to gain more vitamins, harvest Vitamin 6 a little later than the due date, then the harvest will be well stored. But keep in mind that you need to collect vegetables before the rainy period;
- the way of using the crop is universal. Carrots have a delicate and sweet taste, which is why children love them so much.It is good in its natural form, for the preparation of baby food, freezing, canning, and use in cooking.
The marketability of the described variety is very high. The main feature is that during growth and formation, the root crop is completely immersed in the soil. Due to this, its upper part does not have a green color.
Agrotechnics
The seeds are quite resistant to cold weather, so the sowing of the variety is carried out quite early, in late April - early May. The culture is not particularly demanding on soils, it can grow on peat and mineral soils. But it shows good performance in terms of evenness of root crops on loose, moisture and air-conductive soils. Such qualities are possessed by loams. The best predecessors: onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage. Under a deep digging (at least on a shovel bayonet), nutrients should be added: organic matter and mineral fertilizers. Agricultural firms engaged in the distribution of seeds, for example, Aelita, release seeds on a belt. This is very convenient for the gardener, as it saves him time during the planting process, and there is no need to thin out. The crop is suitable for pre-winter sowing.
Vitamin 6 is highly valued for its excellent taste, yield and its ability to be stored throughout the winter. But the disadvantages are also noted. This is insufficient immunity and a predisposition of carrots to cracking.
For several years in a row, we have been planting this carrot with the whole family and are quite satisfied with the results. In the Northern Urals, in general, the so-called zone of risky farming, but this variety grows in any conditions, is extremely unpretentious. We sow in the usual way and practically leave the seeds on the surface, so long as the wind does not blow it away. You can sow in early May, the variety is frost-resistant even for our regions. Further, when the plants germinate, we pluck out the grass and thin out each at a distance of 3-4 cm. The most important thing in a dry summer is constant watering. I assure you that at an average temperature of even 12 degrees, Vitamin 6 grows perfectly up to 17 - 19 cm in three months. That is, in August it is mono boldly to dig out the fruits, but we are not in a hurry, but wait until frost - right up to October. At the same time, the carrot accumulates all the beneficial properties, besides, it is then better preserved when it sits longer in the ground.
