Cucumber variety Mamluk (F1)

Among the early ripening cucumber varieties, a novelty appeared not so long ago, which immediately interested not only ordinary gardeners, but also farmers who grow this delicate vegetable for sale. We are talking about the Mamluk cucumber. The specialists of the Scientific Research Institute of Vegetable Plant Breeding and the Gavrish Breeding Firm worked on its creation. Authors - S.F. Gavrish, A.E. Portyankin, A.V. Shamshina, V.N. Shevkunov, N.N. Khomchenko, T.Ya. Surovova, I.S. Pluzhnik. The variety was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia in 2012, and received admission in all regions of the country. Recommended for growing under film shelters in personal subsidiary plots. Perfect for use in late winter-spring and summer-autumn turnovers in greenhouses. It is considered the standard of lumpy cucumber for cultivation in summer and autumn. The variety is popular not only in Russia, but also in Moldova and Ukraine. Mamluk is a hybrid, therefore it is always labeled F1.

Description

The plant is of an indeterminate type, balanced, low-growth, however, in the greenhouse, the height of the main whip reaches 2 or 2.5 meters. The root system is strong, thanks to which the plant develops quickly and is able to withstand high harvest loads. Lateral shoots are strong, short, no more than 1 meter long. Moderate leafiness. The internodes are not long. Leaves are long-petiolate, medium-sized, green, slightly wrinkled, angular-heart-shaped. The flowering type is female. The number of female flowers in each leaf node of the Mamluk is 3 - 4 (according to the State Register), according to other sources - from 1 - 2 to 2 - 3 flowers.

Zelentsy of the variety is cylindrical, short, 10-14 cm long, but not more than 16 cm.The diameter of the cross-section is 2.5-3.5 cm.The color of the fruit is dark green, there are light stripes of medium length and moderate spotting along the stripes (by ½ length). The skin is firm but not hard. The surface of the fruit is medium lumpy, pubescence is dense, white. The pulp has remarkable consumer properties - it is juicy, tender, pleasant consistency, crunchy, without bitterness. The taste is sweetish, refreshing. The State Register rates the palatability as good and excellent. The seeds are underdeveloped, practically not felt. Cucumber weighs 110 - 130 grams, but 200-gram specimens can also be harvested.

Characteristics

  • The Mamluk hybrid is prized for its early maturity. From the moment the cotyledons open to the beginning of fruiting, 45 - 50 days pass;
  • the yield is high, and most importantly, stable. The fruiting period is long. Marketable yield, according to the State Register, is 12.9 - 13.7 kg per 1 square meter;
  • the plant has ecological plasticity, that is, it perfectly adapts to changes in the environment. Thanks to this, the cucumber tolerates temperature drops perfectly;
  • the variety is able to tie a crop and bear fruit even with insufficient lighting;
  • Mamluk belongs to parthenocarpic cultures. This allows the variety to be grown in isolated greenhouses where pollinating insects are absent. Thanks to this feature, it is possible to obtain a stable ovary even in unfavorable weather conditions in the open field;
  • immunity is quite high. The hybrid is tolerant to powdery mildew, root rot. Less often than others, it is affected by the cucumber green speckled mosaic virus. Medium resistant to downy mildew, ascochitosis;
  • the fruits have excellent commercial qualities, do not outgrow or turn yellow. But harvesting must be done on time in order to accelerate the formation of new ovaries;
  • transportability is high, long-term transportation does not harm the crop of this variety, cucumbers do not lose their visual appeal. Subject to storage standards, the pulp does not lose its taste;
  • the way of use is universal. First of all, ripe sweet fruits are used in salads. Surplus crops can be processed, for example, pickled or salted.

Agrotechnics

The best results Mamluk is able to show only indoors.It can also be grown outdoors, but the yield will be slightly lower, and the greens can have a curved shape. Seeds are sown in April - May. Seedling care does not differ from the generally accepted one. Planting pattern: 50 cm between bushes, 50 cm - row spacing. The variety must be tied to a trellis. The formation of a bush begins with blinding - the removal of all shoots and flowers up to 5 - 6 leaves. Then, up to 12 leaves, all emerging shoots are removed, and the ovaries are left. Further, all the growing shoots are pinched after the first leaf, in which the ovary is formed. After 25 leaves, the top of the central stem can be pinched, thereby limiting growth. The culture is very unpretentious. A powerful and rapidly regenerating root system capable of growing on all types of soil, including coconut or rock wool. The plant loves watering, moisturizing is carried out with warm water. During the growing season, cucumbers are fed at least 3-4 times, using balanced mineral fertilizers or organic matter.

The Mamluk hybrid is an excellent choice not only for personal subsidiary plots. With the help of an unpretentious and productive crop that bears high-quality fruits, you can get a good income. Good immunity will make it easier to care for the plant, although you should not completely abandon preventive treatments. Except for the forced work on tying and shaping the cucumber, no critical shortcomings were found in the variety. Except for one thing - seeds will have to be purchased annually, and their cost is not cheap.
