Cucumber variety Vyaznikovsky 37
One of the oldest, but very well-deserved cucumber varieties on the territory of Russia is Vyaznikovsky 37. It was taken as the basis for many subsequent species of this culture, bred by domestic breeders. Our hero comes from the city of Vyazniki, in the Vladimir region, hence the name. Its selection was carried out by selecting the best specimens from the local varieties of Vyaznikovsky cucumbers. The application for registration of the variety was filed in 1937. It was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements in 1943. Originator - Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Federal Scientific Center of Vegetable Growing". Regions of admission: Central, North, North-West, Middle Volga, Volgo-Vyatka, Ural, West Siberian and East Siberian. The variety is recommended for outdoor cultivation. Ideal for the conditions of central Russia. Cucumber shows excellent results when grown in film greenhouses, in this case the crop ripens even earlier. Not a hybrid.
Description
The plant is medium-sized, the length of the central whip reaches from 1.0 to 1.6 meters, the thickness is 1.5 - 2.0 cm. The upliftness is weak, the shoots are short, but strong. The number of lashes of the first order is 5 - 15. Shoots of the second order rarely grow back. The length of the internode is on average 5.1 cm. The leaves are large, rough, green in color, 22 cm long, 23 cm wide. During the growing season, up to 27 leaves are formed on the main stem. The ovary is elongated-ovate or elliptical, 2.5 - 3.0 cm long, finely tuberous. Pubescence is simple or mixed, dense.
Zelentsy of the variety is small, elongated-ovoid or ellipsoid, 10 - 14 cm long, 4 - 5 cm in diameter, without ribbing. The skin is thin, light green in color. The surface is covered with small, often spaced tubercles, the spines are black. Good taste. The pulp is tender, crispy, aromatic, does not contain bitterness. The mass of cucumbers is 100 - 140 grams.
Characteristics
- In terms of ripening, Vyaznikovsky 37 can be attributed to early ripening. The first cucumbers are removed 40 days after germination. But if the weather intervenes, then the process of entering fruiting can take up to 55 days;
- the yield is 2.6 - 3.5 kg per 1 square meter. The fruiting period is not extended, the plant is able to give the crop quite quickly. Therefore, in addition to this variety, experienced gardeners must plant another one with a longer fruiting period;
- our hero tolerates difficult weather conditions, temperature changes. Under film shelters, it is able to withstand light night frosts, typical for May and early June;
- Vyaznikovsky 37 does not tolerate dry periods;
- the culture's immunity is quite high. Cucumber is prized for its resistance to bacteriosis and powdery mildew;
- belonging to bee-pollinated crops endows the variety with high taste and a high content of nutrients. In addition, the presence of male flowers allows you not to overload the plant with the crop, which means that you can do without rationing;
- the fruits do not outgrow or turn yellow for a long time, so you can pick cucumbers 1 - 2 times a week;
- transportable possibilities and keeping quality are rather high. Fruits of this variety retain their presentation after long-term transportation, taste is not lost during storage;
- the way of use is universal. The early harvest is used naturally for salads and appetizers. During the period of mass fruiting, small cucumbers can be preserved, and slightly overgrown ones can be salted or pickled.
Agrotechnics
Vyaznikovsky 37 can be grown in seedlings or sown directly into the ground. Direct sowing is carried out as soon as the soil warms up to 15 ° C (at night the temperature should not drop below 8 ° C). Such conditions are possible in late May - early June. The seedling method is more popular as it allows for earlier production. Seeds are sown for seedlings in early May. 20-day-old seedlings are planted in a permanent place; the plants should have at least 3 to 4 true leaves. The recommended planting density is 3 - 4 pieces per 1 square meter. The variety requires highly drained, nutritious soil, loams with neutral acidity are well suited. The culture can be grown in a spread or tied to a support. In the process of cultivation, traditional agricultural techniques are used. Given the weak drought resistance of cucumber, special control is given to irrigation.
Vyaznikovsky 37 is one of the most widespread and well-known varieties in Russia. Good yield, reliability and excellent taste of fruits are highly appreciated by gardeners. Care is quite easy, even novice vegetable growers can handle the cultivation. The crop is suitable for natural consumption, for canning and salting. A big plus is the possibility of self-collecting seed material. Cons - insufficient drought resistance of cucumber and dependence on high-quality pollination.
