Cucumber variety Khabar
Growing thermophilic cucumbers in regions with, to put it mildly, a cool climate, for example, in the Far East, is very troublesome. And not only because in these parts it is rather cold and the daylight hours are short. In unfavorable regions, the delicate culture is more often affected by the diseases characteristic of this family. That is why Far Eastern breeders have focused their efforts on creating varieties that would not only withstand weather conditions, but also cope with diseases. In 1999, the Far Eastern Research Institute of Agriculture registered a species called Khabar. The author is the famous scientist-breeder O.N. Migina. In 2000, the novelty was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia with admission in all regions. Most likely, the plant got its name from the place of birth - the Khabarovsk Territory. But one of the interpretations of such a somewhat harsh-sounding word is "luck". The new variety really turned out to be successful. After variety trials, it was recommended for growing in open ground in garden plots, home gardens and small farms. This cucumber is extremely popular among vegetable growers in Priamurye and Primorye. It is appreciated not only in Russia, but also in Moldova and Ukraine. Suitable for industrial cultivation. Not a hybrid.
Description
The plant is of an indeterminate type, medium-sized, rather climbing, medium-leafy. The flowering type is mixed. Leaves are medium in size, slightly wrinkled, green in color. One ovary is formed in each leaf node of the Khabar.
The fruits of the variety are elongated-ovoid, small, 10.4 - 10.7 cm long, 3.9 - 4.1 cm in diameter. The skin is elastic, of medium density. The color is green, with light stripes of medium length and small rounded spots. The surface is covered with large tubercles of medium density, the pubescence is black. The pulp is juicy, rather dense, but tender, the aroma is bright, cucumber. The main distinguishing feature is the complete absence of bitterness. The taste is sweet, the State Register rated the taste of fresh, pickled and canned cucumbers as excellent. Vegetable growers fully supported this assessment, ranking the variety among the most delicious. By the way, at the competition "Golden Autumn-2011" our hero won a gold award for taste and yield. The mass of green greens ready for picking is 92 - 98 grams, but not more than 100 grams.
Characteristics
- Khabar belongs to the early maturing varieties, which is a valuable quality in the conditions of regions with short summers. From the moment of seedling germination to the beginning of collection, it takes from 41 to 46 days;
- the fruiting period is long, the yield is stable;
- marketable yield of 3.9 kg per 1 square meter. Up to 40 tons of first-class products can be harvested from one hectare. These indicators may well be of interest to farmers who grow vegetables for sale;
- the output of marketable products is high - 90%;
- the variety belongs to bee-pollinated, therefore, it should not be grown in closed greenhouses;
- cucumber has very high adaptability to weather conditions. Plants thrive and bear fruit in both cold and hot climates;
- Khabar's immunity is excellent. Our hero is resistant to bacteriosis and downy mildew;
- another valuable feature of the variety is the ability to quickly restore the leaf apparatus, which allows you to get a harvest even in years that are unfavorable in terms of fungal infections;
- transportable possibilities are excellent, the harvest will withstand long-term transportation without losing its presentation. Keeping quality is also good;
- the way of use is universal.The excellent fresh taste makes it possible to use the vegetable in its natural form, for example, in salads. Due to the large tubercles and dense pulp, cucumbers have excellent pickling qualities, and are perfect for canning.
Agrotechnics
It is quite easy to grow swag - by direct sowing of seeds into the ground or using seedlings. Seeds are sown directly into the soil as soon as the threat of frost passes, and the soil warms up to 15 - 20 ° C, and night temperatures should not fall below 8 ° C. For seedlings, cucumbers are sown in April - May. Ready 20 - 25-day-old seedlings are planted in late May - early June. It is recommended to plant no more than 4 plants per 1 square meter. The care is common to the culture as a whole. Foliar top dressing with urea with a small addition of manganese-sour potassium and copper sulfate will give good results.
Khabar is a unique variety that is ideal for cooler regions. Disease resistant and adaptive, it also has excellent palatability and versatile crop utilization. Another undoubted plus is the ability to collect seeds for further cultivation on your own.
I confirm as a Far East - an excellent variety! For many years we have been growing only Khabar in our garden. Loved him for its taste and versatility. We eat fresh, in salads, salt and marinate for the winter. It is resistant to sores, our monsoon climate and the proximity of the sea tolerates well. We already have our own seeds, but sometimes we buy them in the store as a safety net.
