Radish variety 18 days

In the spring, when the body is so lacking in living vitamins, an early vegetable, radish, helps a lot. One of the most popular representatives of this species is a variety with an unusual name for 18 days, the originators of which are two domestic agricultural complexes at once: CJSC Scientific and Production Company "Russian Seeds" and State Scientific Institution North Caucasian Vegetable Experimental Station VNIISSOK. The year of inclusion in the State Register is 2003, admission to cultivation is available in all regions of Russia. Designed for garden plots, home gardens and small farms.

Appearance

The leaf socket is semi-upright. The leaves are obovate, yellowish-green in color. The surface is medium pubescent. The petiole has a red-purple hue, which indicates the presence of anthocyanins in it. A root crop of an elongated-cylindrical shape, unusual for culture, with a convex head, 1.5 - 2 cm in diameter. The color of the radish is pink-red, the tip is white. Average weight - 17 - 20 g. The pulp is white, dense in consistency, but juicy and tender. The taste is excellent - sweet, slightly spicy.

Characteristics

  • "18 days" - ultra-early maturing, which, in fact, says its name. The period from full germination to harvest is only 16 - 22 days. Indoors, respectively, the crop ripens earlier, outdoors - a few days later. The early maturity of the crop allows you to get several harvests per season if you sow seeds every 2 weeks.

  • The culture is famous for its amicable ripening and has a high marketability. The yield is high - 2.3 kg per 1 square meter.
  • It is resistant to flowering, that is, it does not release an arrow with seeds, which is often the case with other varieties.
  • The variety is resistant to climatic changes - lowering or higher temperatures. Seedlings can withstand frosts down to -2 ° C.
  • It has good immunity.

Sowing is carried out from April 20 to August 30. The seeding depth is 1 - 2 cm. The planting pattern is 7 × 9 cm. Regarding care, there are some nuances:

  • for early spring sowing in cool regions, a film shelter can be built over the garden bed, which can then be easily removed at any time;
  • the early ripening of radish allows you to do without additional fertilizing during cultivation, but the planting material should be planted only in prepared and well-fertilized soil in advance;
  • with insufficient watering, pungency will prevail in taste, and the flesh will become somewhat dryish;
  • the variety is picky about lighting. With its lack, the leaf rosette will be elongated, and the roots will be small.

If you follow all the rules of agricultural technology, then the radish for 18 days will delight you with a quickly ripening and large harvest of root crops with an excellent taste, which can be consumed fresh.

The variety was chosen for its exceptional early maturity - in order to get your radish in the spring, guaranteed, without chemicals. I sow in early May in the beds that I have been preparing since autumn - a mixture of black soil and sand - for looseness of the soil. The seeds are small, so the most difficult thing is to spread evenly and not plant too deep. Therefore, I sow on top of the garden and sprinkle it with warm soil from the neighboring one - this guarantees me a harvest. In the spring, there is still enough moisture in the soil, I rarely water it, once a week. The bitterness that people sometimes complain about is, on the contrary, a plus for me - ideally in the first summer okroshka.
I sow the second time in early August - to harvest in September.We have to water it often, it can be very dry. At high temperatures - over 35 - it may not rise.

I have been growing this variety in my garden for more than 10 years, it is really early ripening, always excellent germination and a high yield. The taste of root vegetables is mild, well suited for salads and just whole with salt. I sow radishes in late April - early May, I look at the weather, I don't use fertilizers, I water them often, I sprinkle ash and tobacco dust from earthen fleas between the rows.
