Rose Belvedere

Belvedere is a German-bred scrub rose variety. Bred in Rosen Tantau kennel (Itersen) in 1996. By Hans Jurgen Evers. Introduced in Germany in 2002, in the UK by Pocock's Nurseries in 2006. This rose harmoniously combines the charming shape of the flower and the properties of shrub roses.

Rose Belvedere

The plant is vigorous, neat, 100 - 150 cm high, 100 - 120 cm wide. The shoots are strong, erect. Leaves are glossy, medium-sized, dark green in color.

The flowers are large, densely double, 8 - 13 cm in diameter, contain from 26 to 40 wavy petals. The shape of the roses changes as they bloom from rounded bud to cupped. Unopened orange bud. The opened flowers are orange-peach. Collected in small inflorescences of 5 buds.

Rose Belvedere

The scent of roses is spicy, sweet, aromatic, with a slight hint of spices.

The flowering of this shrub is abundant and long-lasting. It begins in June and lasts, with short breaks, until the fall. The flowers are resistant to rain and summer heat.

Medium resistance to black spot and powdery mildew. It is recommended to plant the Belvedere rose in open sunny areas, where air circulation dries the leaves from moisture, reducing the risk of developing fungal diseases. Also, this variety does not tolerate close planting, lowland and swampy places. Prefers moist, fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic (pH 5.5 - 6.5) soils.

Among the main measures for plant care are: regular fertilization, preventive spraying and sanitary spring pruning of shoots. This shrub rose can reach about 1.5 m in height during the growing season. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out preliminary autumn pruning of shoots - by 1/3 of the entire length - for wintering.

The frost resistance of this variety, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), corresponds to zone 5 (minus 28.9 ° C). According to the experience of gardeners, with proper care, Belvedere can be successfully grown in zone 4a (minus 34.4 ° C).

Rose Belvedere

Despite its high frost resistance, it is advisable to cover the plant for the winter. This procedure is carried out after the first frost, after removing the leaves and buds from the bush, as well as loosening the top layer of the soil to provide air access to the roots of the roses. Spruce paws, dry oak leaves, juniper branches or lutrasil can be used as covering material. The bent shoots are laid on a layer of spruce branches, otherwise the plant may rot in the thawed ground under the shelter.

Advantages of the variety: flowers stay on the bush for a long time, abundant flowering, resistance to bad weather conditions, bright color of flowers, delicious aroma.

Disadvantages: in unfavorable conditions (with thickening of the bush and high air humidity) it is affected by black spot, many gardeners complain of poor winter hardiness (not frost resistance!).

Belvedere is a charming rose with a tart trail and a beautiful contrast between peach flowers and dark green foliage. It is perfect for single planting, small rose garden, landscape composition, mixborder and flower garden. This variety can be planted with excellent companions: ‘Crocus Rose’, ‘Chippendale’, ‘Pat Austin’, ‘Westerland’, ‘Crown Princess Margareta’, ‘Notre Dame du Rosaire’, ‘Rhapsody in blue',' Summer Song ',' Augusta Luise 'and' William Shakespeare '. Amazing pairing with ‘Golden Celebration’, ‘Midsummer’ and ‘Polka'. You can add a purple hue with a variety such as 'Heidi Klum'. You can also highlight the unusual color of this rose with lighter tones of flowers ‘Lichfield Angel’, ‘Tchaikovsky',' Schloss Eutin 'and' Honeymilk '. Complement with an amber shade of the excellent 'Amber Queen'. Add ‘Emil Nolde’ to the yellow and ‘Lady Emma Hamilton’ orange. Such unique compositions will become a luxurious decoration for your garden.

The names are synonyms for the Belvedere variety: 'TAN96205', 'RT 96-205', 'Rick Stein', 'Rikita'.

This rose has lived its first summer in my garden. But it bloomed almost until the end of September with large tassels, despite the fact that the summer in Chelyabinsk was not the most "summer". It has grown very well for the first summer, I hope for a successful winter in the Urals.

I never liked roses with large flowers, but when I saw this variety, I fell in love with it. Flower shape, bright color, unusual aroma of spices - everything amazed. I started looking for a seedling - I found it, it was expensive, but I bought it, planted it and began to wait for a miracle. But the miracle did not happen - neither in the year of planting, nor in the second year, the rose did not bloom, in the third year, when the bush grew a little, several buds opened - yes, they are beautiful, the color is bright and unusual - over time it fades and the bush becomes even more elegant, but these are all the advantages of this beauty - the rose is sore (it picks up black spot all the time, powdery mildew is a little less common), you have to constantly process it. And she winters with me is problematic - our winters are cold, but with frequent thaws, if you cover the plant, it underpins, if you do not cover it, it freezes, so I have not yet seen full flowering in 6 years of cultivation.
