Rose Chandos beauty (Chandos beauty)

The fact that the rose is the most beautiful of flowers, hardly anyone will argue. But as they say, there are no limits to perfection. Among the hybrid tea beauties, you can choose a favorite for an infinitely long time, all the representatives of this family are very good. But most of the rose growers gave their hearts to the charming Chandos Beauty, which stands out for the perfection of lines and the most delicate color.

History of origin

The variety appeared in the UK in 2005. Belongs to the selection of Harkness kennel. Philip Hackness singled it out as his favorite strain. In Great Britain, the rose is presented as Chandos beauty, and to the rose-growing world it is also known as Sweet Love, Morten Korch. The unique code name is HARmisty.

Awards

The unusual beauty of our heroine in combination with the aroma, of course, did not go unnoticed, for its still short history, the variety has already managed to acquire awards. In 2007, she received the title of "Gold Standard" testing by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany of Great Britain (NIAB) and the British Rose Breeders Association, as well as a certificate of honor and an award for fragrance at a competition in Glasgow (UK). In 2008 - the Audience Award at the Rose Competition in Avignon (France). In 2011 - a prize for a fragrance at a competition in Baden-Baden (Germany).

Description

Plant with good vigor. Chandos beauty bushes are powerful, dense and semi-spreading, 80 - 100 cm high, 60 - 80 cm wide. Shoots are strong, but flexible enough, erect. The foliage is healthy, large, glossy, dark green in color, completely covers the bush. As a rule, the peduncle is crowned with a single flower. In rare cases, a small brush forms at the end of the shoot.

The bud of Chandos beauty is very elegant, shaped like a tall glass. It opens slowly, gradually acquiring the shape of a rosette with a high center. The flower is densely double, consisting of 40 - 80 petals with a slightly wavy edge, rather large - 11 cm. At the beginning of dissolution, the petals seem fragile, porcelain, with a delicate pink color. As they unfold, their color gradually becomes lighter, almost a white-cream shade, while at the base the petals seem to shine with a greenish light. A subtle contrast to the harmonious color combination of the outer petals is the spiraling center. It is more saturated in color - peach pink. Rose growers unanimously note that in all stages of disclosure, our heroine is unusually good.

Bloom

Chandos beauty is one of those varieties of roses that delight with continuous flowering, starting in June and ending with cold snaps. Flower waves, although they are pronounced, you will hardly notice the break between them. The buds appear constantly, which makes the shrub appear to be a large pink bouquet. The first wave is more abundant in flowering, and the bush keeps its shape better. In the second wave, the plant can throw fishing rods. Faded rosettes must be removed in time, during this period they look untidy - brown tips, spots on the petals. The aroma of this delicately colored beauty is very bright and memorable. The scent is strong, but at the same time refined, combining a raspberry-fruity aroma with notes of cinnamon and cloves.

Characteristics

  • Already in the first year, Chandos beauty is able to show good flowering and turn your head with its modest and charming beauty. But real opportunities will appear a little later, after a couple of years;
  • the originators declared the 6th zone of frost resistance according to the USDA (a system adopted by the US Department of Agriculture). That is, the plant hibernates calmly at -23.3 ° C. Rose growers, by a majority vote, confirm good winter hardiness. Even if freezing occurs, the rose, thanks to its powerful growth force, grows quickly;
  • At first glance, fragile beauty turned out to be very resistant to various diseases - primarily to powdery mildew and black spot. Reviews also confirm this, flower growers call our heroine quite persistent.But still, in late summer or early autumn, it may suffer slightly from black spot;
  • but the strong smell of flowers attracts bronzes, which can cause trouble;
  • resistance to rain is declared to be average, but in general the flowers tolerate the wet period well. True, torrential rains can lead to the fact that the bud does not fully open;
  • according to reviews, the delicate petals of Chandos beauty are resistant to the sun. But this most likely applies to central Russia. In the south, it is still better if a slight partial shade rescues the rose from solar activity. By the way, the flower develops beautifully in partial shade;
  • the variety is excellent for cutting, even a blossoming rosette retains the freshness of the petals for a long time.

Agrotechnics

Chandos beauty is quite light-loving, but in the south it should be protected from direct sunlight. The planting site should only be slightly blown so that moisture does not become a reason for the development of fungal diseases. The culture is not too picky about soils, but you should not torment the plant on clay soils. The best option is a slightly larger planting pit filled with suitable soil and fertilizer. The best time to plant a seedling is spring, April - May. In the south, of course, autumn. In the process of growth, the care is simple and fully corresponds to the agricultural technology of the crop as a whole - watering as needed, loosening the soil, removing weeds. Preventive treatments are required. Even if it seems that the rose is not sick with anything, use biological products. Top dressing during the flowering period will help maintain abundant bud formation. Pruning is done in the spring, from high to moderate, depending on the effect you want to achieve. Short pruning is carried out after planting a seedling or to rejuvenate an old bush, and medium pruning, by 5 - 7 buds, for early flowering.

Chandos Beauty is a rose with an impeccable, almost standard beauty. Despite the fact that the variety appeared relatively recently, it has already conquered many hearts. It is easy to care for it, but pruning can cause certain difficulties. But overall, the variety is unique in terms of resistance to many problems. The modest and delicate coloring is delightful. Our heroine looks luxurious in a single planting surrounded by a green, well-groomed lawn, goes well with other plants. Its place, of course, is in plain sight, not far from the house or a cozy gazebo.

A worthy rose - with its pros and cons. A variety with very good immunity - practically does not get sick, hibernates stably - equally well tolerates severe frosts and winter thaws, has a powerful growth force - develops quickly and builds up a good bush, gains a large number of buds that slowly open into beautiful roses of a milky cream shade ... But in full dissolution, I do not like the flowers - they are too large, they last for a long time, so dark edges and spots appear on the petals. The aroma of roses is weak and, for my taste, unpleasant - it's good that it manifests itself only in the evening.

My favorite variety. I am not an avid gardener, but nevertheless it grows beautifully and blooms in my garden. The scent is amazing! Even the neighbors took notice.
