Rose Flamingo (Flamingo)

Elegance and attractiveness are inherent in many varieties of roses bred by European breeders. However, some of them are so good that they are downright the dream of flower growers. For example, it is impossible not to fall in love with the Flamingo species. Her appearance is romantic and insanely gentle.

History of creation

The hybrid tea got its unusual name in honor of the exotic bird of the same name. The reason for this was the pink tone of the beautiful buds formed on this plant, reminiscent of the shade of the plumage of a flamingo. Also, this culture is listed in catalogs as Margaret Thatcher and Veronica (or Veronika). The names Porcelain, KORflug are also used in relation to it. Flamingo is a variety from the famous German nursery Cordes. The year of appearance of the perennial is 1979.

Description of appearance and features

This rose has many virtues. Its shoots are stable and strong, so that the bush does not fall apart during a very abundant flowering. Dark green leaves with a leathery texture and a shiny surface contrast effectively with pale pink, slightly double flowers, which are characterized by a regular, graceful shape and a light, pleasant aroma. Over time, the color of the inflorescences along the edges fade in the sun, which is why it is replaced by silvery-pink, but this refined beauty does not lose its effectiveness. Ivory buds are large (9-11 cm in diameter), pointed, with a high center. They are formed on the shoots one by one or in brushes of 5-7 pieces and bloom very slowly, demonstrating to the observer all their pristine beauty. The number of petals in inflorescences reaches 25 pieces.

Flamingo is not too tall (100-125 cm), compact perennial. The stems of a vigorous, branched shrub are a little thin, but there are few thorns on them. In this regard, the spines of the plant are large and are often located on the surface of the shoots. The culture acquires flowering shoots with enviable constancy throughout the season. The hybrid blooms from late June until the first autumn frosts.

A rose with such a delicate, sophisticated appearance actually has a high resistance to a variety of negative environmental factors. Flamingo has good winter hardiness (tolerates frosts down to -25 ° C). Subject to the growing conditions, it is not very susceptible to powdery mildew and other diseases.

Growing and care

Select a sector of the plot for the decorative flowering shrub, where it will have enough sunlight. A place in partial shade is also suitable for growing a perennial, but in this case its flowers may turn out to be slightly smaller than usual in size. The culture needs reliable protection from gusty winds.

The rose should be planted only in fertile, moderately moist soil with a high-quality drainage layer at the bottom of the planting pit. This condition is especially important to comply with if you are going to place a bush where there is too close a location of groundwater to the surface of the substrate.

Watering and feeding, weeding and loosening the soil under the flower - all this must be present in the plan for caring for the plant. To moisten the soil, you cannot use hard, cold water: first it must be defended, preferably in the sun, so that the liquid warms up a little. The plant is fed in spring, as well as in the budding and flowering phase. Two weeks after the Flamingo has lost its floral attire, fertilization should be repeated. A hybrid tea rose needs mineral concentrates, only at the beginning of spring it is worth giving preference to organics.

After watering, you can pour mulch around the bush, namely in the zone of the trunk circle. Her role will be played by humus, peat, dry grass or sawdust. It is necessary to mulch the soil under the hybrid after watering in order to prolong the presence of moisture in the soil. Throughout the season, the plant needs sanitary pruning, which consists in removing faded buds and dead branches. For the winter, all the shoots are shortened somewhat, and the shrub itself is insulated. However, the flower needs a well-ventilated shelter, thanks to which it will be possible to avoid drying out of the bush.

Use cases

A lovely rose will become a fabulous decoration of a garden, park, flower garden. It can be planted in groups of 3-5 bushes and alone on a lush green grass lawn. The miracle of German selection is suitable for placement near the gazebo, along the fence, at the front entrance to the dwelling. Decorative flowering perennial will decorate the garden alley, flower beds. Flamingo can be used to create hedges and to divide the garden into zones. Evergreens (juniper, thuja, cypress), ornamental shrubs (black elderberry, Thunberg barberry, bubblegum) are suitable as companions for this culture. The neighborhood of the tea hybrid with foxglove, lily, forget-me-nots, phlox, hydrangea, as well as hosts and wormwood with silvery leaves is successful; grains of gray-gray shades.

It is noteworthy that the Flamingo variety can often be seen in greenhouses. Since the European beauty is a bright representative of the leading group of cut roses, she is also used for making bouquets. The flowers of the plant stand in the water for a long time - up to two weeks, crumbling only when dried.

I once had this rose. She really really decorated my flower bed: always healthy, green, “cheerful”. During the flowering period, it was impossible to take your eyes off the bush. The flowers attracted attention so much. At first he surprised the bud with its exquisite sophistication, then the flower itself, which bloomed for a long time. The bush itself is unpretentious to the conditions (I have such a soil on the site), but reacted very positively to feeding. I sometimes feed with mineral fertilizers, once a season, but more often with organic matter. The only negative is that the rose is very poorly rooted by cuttings. Maybe because it's a hybrid. I never got a new bush. Therefore, when the rose grew old, one spring it simply did not wake up. Now I'm looking to plant again.
