Rose Red Lighthouse

Red Lighthouse is a variety of single-flowering climbing roses of domestic selection. Bred by Vera Nikolaevna Klimenko in 1956 for the collection of roses in the Nikitsky Botanical Garden. A cross between ‘Excelsa’ and ‘Kordes Sondermeldung’ roses. Belongs to the Vihuriana group of roses. It is one of the most popular varieties of climbing roses in Crimea.

The bush is lush, vigorous and spreading, can reach a height of 3 - 3.5 meters. Shoots are upright, creeping, tenacious and strong. The color of the shoots is dark green, while the young shoots are violet-red in color. The leaves are rounded, glossy, dark green in color.

Roses are large, semi-double, 7 - 8 cm in diameter, contain more than 20 petals. The flowers at the beginning of flowering are scarlet-red with a barely perceptible velvet, later more velvet appears, and the color becomes fiery red with an orange tint and a yellow center. The shape of the flowers changes during flowering from a rounded-pointed bud to a blues-shaped one. Roses are collected in large inflorescences of 10-13 flowers. They have a delicate, light aroma, familiar to many from childhood.

Red Lighthouse blooms once (in June-July), but abundantly and continuously. This rose can be grown as a bush or as a climbing rose. In the first case, you need to carry out a formative pruning, and in the second - a garter to the supports.

This variety, like any climbing rose, does not like the north wind, close planting, lowland and swampy places. Prefers sun and warmth, fertile and loose soil with good drainage.

Resistant to pests and diseases such as powdery mildew and black spot. But for preventive purposes, it is recommended to plant these plants in open areas, where air circulation quickly dries the leaves from moisture, reducing the risk of developing diseases.

Rose Red Lighthouse is suitable for regions with harsh climates. Differs in high frost resistance: according to USDA zone 5 (minus 23 - 28 ° C), which corresponds to the climate of the Leningrad region, Primorsky Krai and most of central Russia. Hibernates with shelter.
