Rosa Julio Iglesias

Meilland International can rightfully be called one of the visiting cards of France, because the most beautiful varieties of roses are created here. Many creations of this company bear the names of great people. For example, one of the varieties is named after the famous singer Julio Iglesias. Like the multifaceted talent of a musician with an amazing voice, this rose is incredibly attractive and delights its owners with wonderful flowers of an unusual color throughout the summer season.

History of origin

The Julio Iglesias variety was bred by the breeders of the above company relatively recently - in 2006. Despite this, he has already managed to gain popularity among European and even Russian flower growers. In catalogs, this rose may appear under the name MEIstemon or MEIsiastri.

Description of the variety

This plant immediately catches your eye, you just have to even glance at it. It's all about the stunning flowers of the original striped white and red colors. Interestingly, white often has a creamy tint, while red contains an admixture of cherry or raspberry colors. Each bud of a plant is unique, since it differs in a different quantitative combination of the indicated flowers.

Julio Iglesias is also a very aromatic culture. It exudes a strong scent with notes of Madagascar vervein and fresh citrus. The single flowers of this French rose are not too large: only 8-10 cm in diameter - but they consist of a large number of rounded petals. The variegated buds contrast beautifully with the dense, dark green, glossy foliage that covers the compact shrub. The parameters of an ornamental flowering erect perennial are as follows: height - from 70 to 80 cm, width - about 0.8 m. The Frenchwoman belongs to the multi-flowering varieties. The number of flowers on the bush during the whole season is large enough, and they keep for a long time.

The luxurious beauty has excellent immunity. It is extremely rarely damaged by fungal and bacterial diseases, as well as by insect pests. Rosa Julio Iglesias quickly adapts to adverse weather and changing climatic conditions; tolerates cold well, namely, lowering the air temperature to minus 23 ºС.

Growing and care

For planting a plant, it is worth choosing a place located in an openwork penumbra. Prolonged exposure to the culture of direct sunlight can cause burns on flower petals and even provoke a burnout of bright colors. In addition, this factor accelerates the flowering of the magnificent perennial. Not suitable for placing shrubs and lowlands, since in such areas the rose can rot due to stagnation of cold air and moisture after rains.

The tea hybrid must be planted in a highly fertile, drained soil with good moisture capacity and air permeability. The recommended reaction of the soil used is slightly acidic. Regular garden soil is improved by mixing it with sod soil, humus, peat and compost. Sand is added to loosen the grant. Fine crushed stone or gravel is suitable for the role of drainage material laid on the bottom of the hole. The approximate depth of the planting hole should be in the range of 50 to 70 cm. Make sure that the root collar, as a result of placing the seedling in the hole and filling its root system with the prepared soil mixture, is several centimeters below the ground level.

Variety care does not involve anything unusual. The flower needs standard procedures: regular watering, timely feeding, periodic loosening of the soil under the bush and mulching the soil around the perennial, as well as pruning the crop stems in spring and autumn. For the winter, the plant must be covered, especially when cultivating it in a region with a harsh climate and little snow in winter. Spruce spruce branches, dry tree foliage, agrospan are used as insulating material. It is better not to use the film, so as not to provoke damping off of the shoots.

Please note that the tea hybrid needs preventive treatments with an insecticidal preparation to reduce the risk of harmful insects on the plant and a fungicide solution - to prevent possible damage to shoots and leaves by fungal diseases. In total, 2-3 such procedures will be required during the growing season.

Use cases

Julio Iglesias is an exquisite decoration for a modern rose garden, garden and flower garden. It is able to add freshness, bright accents, and a touch of originality to any territory for which the culture is planned to be used. Compact size allows you to place a noble plant in curbs, mixborders, rabatki, on round flower beds. This perennial is magnificent both in low hedges, and in the foreground of a flower garden, and in group plantings, and in splendid isolation against the background of a bright green grass lawn. When creating mixed compositions with the participation of this plant, crops whose inflorescences are painted in scarlet, burgundy, white or crimson should be chosen for the role of its companions.

A somewhat eccentric rose bush is appropriate in a rocky garden, near gazebos and garden fountains, among miniature evergreen shrubs and trees such as mountain pines, junipers, fir, thuja, boxwood. Modest ornamental grasses, fragrant herbs, herbaceous plants with umbrella inflorescences, bright annuals, ground cover crops will make good company to him. This rose is allowed to be cultivated in containers. The flowers of the French variety can be used for cutting because they retain their freshness, perfect shape and attractive appearance when left in water for two weeks. And bouquets of striped buds turn out to be simply amazing, not devoid of showiness and creativity!
