Tomato variety Brandy pink
The Vkusnoteka series, well-known to vegetable growers, boasts varieties of tomatoes for every taste: from real, rich tomato, to dessert, even fruit. One of the popular tomatoes in this series is called Brandy Pink. It is famous for its juicy and sweet fruits. In the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia, our hero was registered in 2015. Its applicant and originator is Agrofirma Poisk LLC. The variety is allowed for cultivation in all regions of the country. Recommended for film shelters in personal subsidiary plots. In the southern regions, you can grow tomatoes outdoors. Our hero does not belong to hybrids. Presumably, he is one of the descendants of the famous American Brandywine.
Description
The plant is indeterminate, but growth generally stops at a height of 150 - 160 cm. The stem is strong, shoots and foliage are moderate. Leaves are small, potato type, slightly wrinkled, green. A simple inflorescence consists of large flowers. Fruit clusters, which form after the 9th leaf, mainly contain 3 - 4 ovaries. The peduncle is articulated.
The fruits of the variety are flat-round, medium-silvery, of medium density. Unripe tomato is light green, with a dark spot at the stalk. When ripe, it becomes pink, however, according to some gardeners, the color saturation is insufficient. The pulp is very tender, very fleshy, juicy, but not watery, multi-chamber - there are 6 or more seed nests. Taste qualities of Brandy pink are excellent, the pulp is sweetish, aromatic. Due to its excellent taste, this tomato is called the Salad Miracle. The tomatoes are large. The originators promise copies weighing 250 - 450 grams. True, the State Register recorded a mass of 100 - 150 grams. According to vegetable growers, the largest fruits ripen in the first and middle clusters, on those that are higher - tomatoes are prone to crumbling.
Characteristics
- The variety belongs to the mid-season. From the moment of emergence of full shoots to the beginning of fruiting, 115 - 120 days pass. If you count from the planting of seedlings, then ripening occurs at 88 - 93 days;
- the yield of marketable fruits, according to the State Register, is 6.6 kg per 1 square meter;
- the ripening of tomatoes in the clusters is not in a hurry. The harvest period is from July to August;
- despite the large-fruited, the culture is resistant to fruit cracking, of course, if the soil moisture is kept under control;
- immunity is not mentioned in the State Register. Other sources describe the variety as resistant to Alternaria leaf blight, cladosporium disease, and tobacco mosaic virus. Vegetable growers confirm the good health of the culture, but note that our hero can still get sick with cladosporiosis, albeit one of the latter;
- the adaptability of the tomato is quite high. According to observations, the plant is quite cold-resistant, does not stop the formation of the ovary in the heat;
- the transportability of the fruits of Brandy pink is insufficient. The pulp does not withstand long-term transportation, it crumples;
- keeping quality is also low; with prolonged storage, insufficiently dense pulp ceases to keep its shape, becomes too soft;
- the way of use is universal. Ripe tomatoes are ideal in their natural form, used to prepare salads. Suitable for processing into tomato products - juices, sauces, pastes. Small fruits can be salted and canned.
Agrotechnics
The originators advise sowing seeds for seedlings in the second decade of March. The pick is carried out in the phase of 2 true leaves. Transplantation to a permanent place is carried out at the age of two months.The recommended planting density is 3 - 4 bushes per 1 square meter. Mandatory garter on the trellis and pinching. Form a plant in 1 - 2 stems. Agricultural technology is common for the culture as a whole. Tomatoes need to be watered, fertilized and kept clean on time.
Brandy pink is a rather controversial variety. Many admire him, but for some he is disappointing. Perhaps the fault is the re-grading. Of the positive aspects, I would like to note the excellent taste (it is not for nothing that the variety is included in the "Vkusnoteka" series), large-fruited and resistance to cracking, due to which the presentation of the crop is preserved. The plant is relatively unpretentious, but preventive treatments should not be neglected. When grown in a greenhouse, many gardeners remain dissatisfied with the insufficient height of the plant, because quite a lot of volume is lost that could be filled with taller specimens. In addition, the crop is not transportable and is not stored. But if you like the tomato, you can always collect the seeds yourself.
Of all the declared positive qualities of the variety when grown in a greenhouse, I did not see a single one. If it weren't for a potato-type leaf, I wouldn't have believed it was him. In addition, the fruits turned out to be strongly ribbed and not quite pink, but more red and sour.
