Tomato variety Dark chocolate
Cherry is a special variety of tomatoes, which is distinguished by its small fruit size and excellent taste. In 2013, Agrofirma Poisk LLC applied for the registration of a new variety called Dark Chocolate. The new variety is part of the popular Vkusnoteka series. In 2015, the novelty was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia and received admission to cultivation in all regions of the country. Recommended for growing in film greenhouses of personal subsidiary plots. Not a hybrid.
Description
The plant is of an indeterminate type, tall - about 1.7 meters, but sometimes the height exceeds two meters. The stalk is thick, the internodes are short, which is the key to good productivity. The bush is not dense, the foliage is moderate. Leaves of medium size, usual type, green, with a slightly corrugated surface. Inflorescences are of a simple or intermediate type. The first brush is formed after 7 - 8 leaves. Each fruit cluster is well filled; it can contain about 10 - 12 ovaries. The peduncle is articulated.
Fruits are round, smooth, of medium density, small in size - the State Register recorded a mass of 25 grams. Unripe tomato is green in color with a dark spot at the stalk, when ripe turns brown with a purple tint. The pulp is juicy and tender, has excellent taste. The taste is sweet, fruity, with a subtle sourness, especially when a tomato ripens on a bush, but sourness will prevail in ripened fruits. Seed nests 2 pieces.
Variety characteristics
- The State Register classifies Dark Chocolate as early maturing. The originator indicates mid-maturity. Judge for yourself, from the moment of emergence to the beginning of fruiting, 100 - 105 days pass. In other sources - up to 120 days;
- the yield is good, the bush is simply hung with long tassels. But there is no exact data in the description from the originator. The State Register reports 4.7 kg per square meter. Internet sources give rather contradictory information about the yield per plant - from 2 to 5 kg;
- the fruiting period is long. The plant blooms and bears fruit until the very cold. Unripe tomatoes are ripened at home;
- the State Register does not provide information on immunity. The originators are also laconic about this. But tomato growers praise the variety very much for its resistance to many diseases;
- resistance to weather changes is good - the plant perfectly tolerates cold snaps and heat;
- transportability and keeping quality at an average level. According to gardeners, long-term transportation does not have the best effect on the appearance of the fruit. And they are not stored for long;
- the way of eating the fruits of Dark Chocolate is universal. But tomato growers still prefer to use tomatoes for making salads and decorating ready-made meals. When canning the fruits of this variety, their skin breaks, the pulp flows out, which makes the workpiece not very beautiful.
Agrotechnics
To grow tomatoes, you need to sow seeds for seedlings. This procedure is carried out in mid-March. After 2 months, the seedlings are ready for transplantation. Planting pattern: 40 cm between bushes, 60 cm row spacing. After transplanting, the plants are tied up, formed into 1 - 2 stems. Although some vegetable growers have grown a crop in 3 - 4 stems. Stepping-stones must be carried out. Bulky brushes need to be removed in time so that the remaining ones have time to mature. Watering is carried out as needed, but it is impossible to allow waterlogging or overdrying of the soil. Mineral fertilizers are used for feeding.
Amazing Dark Chocolate can only grow and bear fruit well in greenhouses. The plant shows good productivity with sufficient care. In principle, agricultural technology is simple, it corresponds to the culture as a whole. The variety is prized for its unusual coloration, fruity taste and yield. In addition, the dark pulp is very beneficial as it contains anthocyanin. The crop is not suitable for storage and processing. But tomato growers speak highly of the variety, and albeit in small quantities, they are going to plant it in subsequent years. Fortunately, you can always collect the seeds yourself by choosing the most beautiful tomatoes for this.
I love tomatoes of this color. It seems to me that they are sweeter than reds and yellows. Dark chocolate is good because there are many fruits on one brush. They are small in size, so they are great for whole fruit canning. The bunches look beautiful on the bush. This variety is also little affected by late blight, which is also valuable. But at the end of July, I cut off all the lower leaves so that the tomatoes are better ventilated and not affected by fungal diseases.
Although this variety is intended for greenhouses, we risked growing it in the open field, since we have not yet acquired a greenhouse. The yield is slightly lower, of course. But the plants are resistant to sores. No problem with them for two seasons. They doze well on the window, while maintaining their taste. This year we will sow our seeds. The taste is excellent. We don't cut into salads, so we eat. We marinate for the winter.
