Tomato variety Red Riding Hood

To feel like a real gardener without leaving your home, you need to purchase vegetable seeds, which can be grown in a flower pot. When making a choice among tomato varieties, you can opt for the Little Red Riding Hood variety. An application for its registration in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia was submitted by Agrofirma Poisk LLC in 2011, in the same year the novelty was entered into the register with admission throughout Russia. The species is suitable for growing in spring film unheated greenhouses in personal subsidiary plots. But the cultivar is widely known as a potted crop, which is easy to grow on a balcony or windowsill. Not a hybrid.

This tomato should not be confused with the Rotkapphen variety (which is translated as "Little Red Riding Hood"). This species belongs to German selection. It was also included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation in 1995, and was allowed to grow only in two regions - North-West and Middle Volga.

Description

The plant is superdeterminate, the height declared by the originator does not exceed 40 cm. Growth is self-limited by the formation of inflorescences. The variety belongs to the standard type, has a strong stem with short internodes. Shoot-forming ability is weak, foliage is good. Leaves are medium in size, petiolate, tomato type, slightly corrugated. Little Red Riding Hood's flowers are small, yellow, collected in simple inflorescences. Fruit clusters form across each leaf. On average, 5 - 6 ovaries are formed in a brush.

Tomatoes are very small, with an average weight of 15 - 20 grams, which is quite consistent with the overall size of the plant. But there are a lot of them, the bush is literally hung with red fruits. The shape of the tomatoes is round, the surface is smooth, they are soft to the touch. Unripe tomato is green with a dark green spot at the stalk. In the process of aging, the color becomes saturated red, the stain disappears. The pulp is juicy, tender. Number of nests - 2 - 3. Excellent taste.

The variety is included in a series of vegetables, united by the name "Four Letters", which is produced by the agricultural firm "Poisk". In this series, in addition to Little Red Riding Hood, there is also a yellow and orange one. They differ from the described variety only in color.

Characteristics

  • The variety is early maturing. The period from emergence to the onset of ripening is only 85 - 90 days;
  • harvesting begins on July 10 and lasts until early September;
  • marketable yield, according to the State Register, is 1.8 kg per 1 square meter. According to the originator, this figure is 2.0 - 3.0 kg per 1 sq. meters;
  • the baby tomato has excellent immunity. There is a high resistance to fusarium wilt, verticillosis and tobacco mosaic virus;
  • fruits do not crack;
  • according to gardeners' reviews, the seed germination rate is high;
  • despite the almost toy size, tomatoes can be used not only in their natural form, they are excellent for whole-fruit canning;
  • Red Riding Hood seeds can be harvested for further cultivation.

Agrotechnics

Sowing tomato seeds for seedlings is done in late February - early March. The seeds of this variety are small, so they are buried in the soil by 1.0 - 1.5 cm. Seedlings are grown in the usual way, planted in a permanent place at the age of 55 - 60 days. It should be noted that the seedlings grow strong. The variety is very demanding on heat, so the place where the culture is to grow should be as illuminated as possible. It is heat that is the main factor that determines the rate of growth and ripening of the crop. The plant is not demanding for soil moisture, but the average air humidity should be within 60%. With an increase in this indicator, the flowers of the Little Red Riding Hood stop pollinating and may fall off, and the bush itself may suffer from the manifestation of fungal diseases - the black leg threatens the seedlings, and late blight may affect the fruits and other parts of the plant.Regardless of where the species is grown, in the garden or in the pots, the soils should be light loamy or sandy loam, with a high content of humus and nutrients. The recommended planting density is up to 8 pieces per 1 square meter.

Typically, standard species do not need garter and shaping, especially if the tomato grows in a flower pot. But in the garden it is better to tie the plant to a support so that the fruit brushes do not fall under the weight of the tomatoes.

Little Red Riding Hood is not only a highly decorative culture, its fruits can be safely used for fresh consumption and canning. Of course, you will not get a large harvest of tomatoes, but fresh tomatoes will always be on the table. At home, small bushes of this variety can be grown all year round, and this process is not only easy, but also exciting, and agricultural technology does not differ from the usual one.
