Tomato variety Pink unique (F1)
The largest among the pink-fruited tomatoes offered by the Dutch company Monsanto Holland B.V. is Pink unikum. This variety really deserves attention, and not only because of the size and belonging to the Beef tomato category. The novelty was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia in 2008, received admission in 7 regions of the country: North, North-West, Central, Volgo-Vyatka, Central Black Earth, North Caucasus and Middle Volga. The variety is suitable for cultivation under film shelters in personal subsidiary plots. The originators are recommended for growing in the first turn. Both soils and artificial substrates are suitable for planting. The belonging of our hero to hybrids is reflected in the F1 marking.
Description
The plant is indeterminate, with medium growth energy, open type bush. Height can exceed 2.0 meters. The culture has good generativity. This type of development assumes a more compact shrub with a thin stem, moderate branching, small foliage and a large number of inflorescences, which, of course, has a beneficial effect on overall productivity. The internodes are short. Tomato leaves are medium in size, dark green, normal type, with a dull, slightly corrugated surface. The inflorescence is of a simple type, the flowers are bright yellow. As practice shows, on the central stem, from 4 to 6 brushes are mainly formed, in each of which from 5 to 7 ovaries are formed. All fruits ripen in the brush. The peduncle of the variety has an articulation. The place of attachment of the peduncle is wide.
Pink Unicum fruits are round or flat-round, slightly ribbed, of moderate density. The skin is glossy, thin and dense. The unripe fruit is light green, without a dark spot at the stalk. When ripe, it becomes deep pink. The flesh is sugary on the break, fleshy, very tender and juicy, cut into slices does not drain. The consistency of the pulp is very pleasant, not oaky, moderately dense. There are many seed chambers, more than 6, but they are not very large. Taste qualities are excellent, and this is confirmed by tomato growers, comparing the sweet taste of our hero with varietal crops. The large-fruited variety is confirmed by the State Register, according to its data, the mass of one tomato is 250 grams. It should be noted that in each cluster the fruits are practically one-dimensional. Regardless of the location of the brush - in the lower or upper tier, the weight of the tomatoes remains within the declared indicators.
Characteristics
- Despite the fact that the originators declare an early ripening period, the State Register provides other data, based on which our hero can be attributed to the mid-ripening period - ripening occurs 120 days after the appearance of full shoots;
- the productivity of culture is high, here the generative type of development affects. According to the State Register, the marketable yield is 16.9 kg per 1 square meter. Other sources mention 5 kg per plant;
- the immunity of the variety is quite high, this is stated by the originator and confirmed by the State Register. The plant is highly resistant to tomato mosaic (race 0 - 2), brown leaf spot (race C - E), fusarium wilt (race 0: 1), fusarium rot of roots and root collar, verticillium wilt (race 0). There is an intermediate resistance to the southern root knot nematode. But, according to the reviews of vegetable growers, Pink is the only one sometimes affected by the top rot;
- an important quality for a pink-fruited tomato is full and uniform ripening, without green shoulders;
- our hero is characterized by increased stress resistance. Even in a very hot period, when other crops stop setting fruit, it is able to continue to form inflorescences and ovaries;
- fruits are resistant to cracking, which is important for large-scale crops cultivated in greenhouses;
- despite the insufficient density of tomatoes and large sizes, the hybrid is perfectly transported;
- the keeping quality of the variety is insufficient - without loss of taste and presentation, the crop can be stored for only a week;
- the way of use is universal. Despite the fact that juicy and sweet pulp is primarily used for making salads, the harvest is perfectly processed into tomato products - juices, sauces, pastes.
Agrotechnics
Pink unique is grown in seedlings. Seeds are sown around the second decade of March, but in the southern regions, they can be sown a month earlier. Seedlings dive for sure. The seedlings are suitable for transplanting at the age of two months. In the open field, young plants are planted under light shelters, which are removed with the establishment of warm weather. Bushes must be tied up after adaptation in a new place. To obtain maximum performance, the variety is formed into 1 - 2 stems. Some vegetable growers also leave a larger number of stems - 3 - 4, but this may reduce the mass of tomatoes, especially in the absence of proper agricultural technology. Passionking is carried out as needed. The culture is demanding for warmth and good lighting. The soil should be loose and nutritious. The air humidity in the protected ground should not exceed 70%, otherwise a favorable environment is created for the development of fungal infections. Soil moisture should be within 80%. Nutrition should be balanced, mainly the culture will need nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium. Harvesting should be done on time. Towards the end of the growing season, pinch the growing point 2 leaves above the uppermost flower brush.
Hybrid Pink is unique over the years of cultivation has earned the respect of not only ordinary vegetable growers. Due to its high commercial qualities, the culture is highly valued in the market, therefore it is considered promising for industrial cultivation. The variety is not too demanding in agricultural technology, but at the same time it is capable of showing excellent results. It is especially appreciated for its large tomatoes of excellent pink color and high taste. A fairly high immunity will significantly reduce the number of chemical treatments. And so that the crop does not suffer from top rot, it is necessary to maintain a balance of soil moisture and air. This is easy to do with the correct watering and ventilation schedule. During cultivation, the variety has no particular complaints from gardeners or farmers. The only drawback is the need to purchase seeds, since second generation hybrids are no longer able to show excellent characteristics.
