Tomato variety Carbon (Carbon)

Gardeners collecting unusual varieties of tomatoes have probably heard about the overseas miracle - the black chokeberry tomato Carbon (original name Carbon). An exotic vegetable native to America. In his home country in 2005, he won the Heirloom Garden Show competition for the best taste. Carbon is not included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia. According to numerous reviews, this is one of the few open field chokeberries that delight with taste. Not a hybrid.

Description

The plant is described as indeterminate, medium-sized. The height in the open field is about 1 meter, in the protected field - 1.5 meters. A distinctive feature of the variety is the independent cessation of growth when a certain number of brushes are formed. Strong bushes, powerful stems, good shoots, medium foliage. Leaves are of the usual type, slightly wrinkled, dark green, of medium size. The inflorescences are of a simple type. The peduncle is articulated. Each fruit cluster has 3 to 7 ovaries. There are at least 5 inflorescences on the main stem, so we can talk about an excellent load on the bush.

Fruits are flat-round, with cheeks. Unripe tomato is green in color, with a dark spot at the base. When ripe, it becomes dark red, with a chocolate tint, especially noticeable near the stalk. The pulp of the variety is brick-red, fleshy, juicy, multi-chambered (there are more than 6 chambers), but the seed nests are small, with a small number of seeds. The consistency of the pulp is quite dense. The taste is excellent. The pulp is fragrant, very sweet; subtle astringency gives piquancy to the taste. Our hero, moreover, conquers with large-fruited. The mass of tomatoes is from 200 to 300 grams.

Characteristics

  • Carbon is mid-season. Ripening of delicious tomatoes begins 110 - 120 days after germination;
  • long-term fruiting, the plant will work until the frost. According to some reports - until October;
  • as tomato growers noticed, the ovary appears quite quickly, but it takes a long time to ripen;
  • there is no exact information about the yield. But the tomato is described as very productive, as indicated by the large number of inflorescences on the bush and the mass of fruits. According to the reviews of gardeners, including American ones, the productivity indicator of the variety is above average. Carbon shows the best results in protected ground;
  • tomatoes are resistant to cracking. But if you do not adhere to normal soil moisture, the problem still cannot be avoided;
  • there is information that the plant suffers from the heat - the leaves burn and the fruits get burns, become softer;
  • in relation to immunity, conclusions can only be drawn from reviews. And they are mostly positive, which indicates a good disease resistance of the variety;
  • transportability is not bad considering the density of tomatoes. Keeping quality also allows you to keep the crop for some time;
  • The method of use is universal. First of all, our hero is grown to use tomatoes in their natural form - in salads, for sandwiches. But the fleshy pulp is perfectly processed into juice and pasta. True, some gardeners do not really like the color of the finished product, but it tastes great.

Agrotechnics

Grow carbon in seedlings. It is better to calculate the sowing time yourself, taking into account the climatic features. The recommended planting density is no more than 4 bushes per 1 square meter. Tying to a support is a necessary procedure, as well as pinching. In order for the culture to show the maximum result, the formation is carried out in 2 stems.Agricultural technology is simple. The only caveat is that you should not get carried away with nitrogen during feeding.

Carbon is an unusual and very tasty variety. During the ripening period of the crop, when numerous fruits begin to pour in, any vegetable grower will be proud of the results of his labor. And he will experience even greater delight when he tastes sweet tomatoes. The variety is unpretentious and hardworking, so most gardeners leave it in their collection. You can collect the seeds yourself.
