Tomato variety Prima Donna (F1)
In regions with short and cold summers, early-ripening tomatoes are especially appreciated, which have time to give the harvest for a short growing season. An example of such varieties is the Prima Donna, created at the Moldavian Research Center for Seed Breeding of Agricultural Technology. Author - Yu.I. Panchev. In 2006, an application was submitted for registration of the novelty, and in 2007 it was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation with admission to cultivation in all regions of the country. Recommended for cultivation in open ground and under film shelters in personal subsidiary plots. It is a hybrid, therefore, the seed bag must be marked F1.
Description
The plant is vigorous, determinate type, not standard, 120 - 130 cm high, with an average degree of branching and small foliage. The stem of the tomato is quite powerful, covered with pubescence, as well as the shoots. The root system does not go deep underground, but grows on the sides. The leaf plate is large, of the usual tomato type, rich green in color, slightly wrinkled, almost not pubescent. The inflorescence is simple. The peduncle is articulated. The first inflorescence of the variety is formed over 6 - 8 leaves, the rest appear after 1 - 2 leaves. During the growing season, the prima donna forms up to 8 brushes, in each of which up to 5 - 7 ovaries are formed.
The fruit is of a beautiful, heart-shaped-rounded shape with a nose, slightly ribbed, dense. The skin is dense, of moderate thickness, glossy. Unripe tomato is light green, without a contrasting spot at the stalk. When ripe, it turns into an even red color. The pulp is fleshy, tender, moderately dense, not watery, contains from 4 to 6 seed nests. The taste is assessed as excellent, organically combining sweet and sour notes. Such a high taste rating for a hybrid is especially valuable. Tomatoes weigh 100 - 130 grams, according to the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation, the weight of 170 - 190 grams is indicated on the package with the author's seeds.
Characteristics
- Hybrid Prima Donna compares favorably with early maturity. After the amicable sprouting of seedlings, 95 - 110 days pass before ripening. The ripening period is influenced by the growing conditions and climate. In a greenhouse or in the south, you can start harvesting in 90 days;
- the yield of marketable fruits, according to the State Register of Varieties of the Russian Federation, is 6.1 kg per 1 square meter. The author and originator of the variety claims 20 - 22 kg per 1 sq. meters;
- the culture has high adaptive abilities, due to which, in any weather, the crop will tie and ripen;
- tomato is great for problem areas where other varieties show poor yields;
- the immunity of the prima donna is very high - it perfectly resists verticillium, fusarium, tobacco mosaic virus and alternaria;
- fruit resistance to cracking is noted;
- transportation capacity is very high, dense tomatoes are resistant even to mechanical damage during transportation;
- the way of using the fruits is universal. The variety is suitable for fresh consumption, processing into tomato products, canning, and can be used in home cooking when preparing meals.
Agrotechnics
Regardless of the region, it is best to grow the Prima Donna in a seedling way. Sowing is carried out in late March - early April. Do not deepen the seeds more than 2 cm. Seedlings dive in the phase of two true leaves and harden 1.5 weeks before transplanting to a permanent place. The plant is unpretentious to soils, but still the best performance is possible only on loose and nutritious loams. The bush must be tied to a support. Form into 1 or 2 stems.The care is standard for the culture as a whole.
The Diva hybrid is highly prized for its early harvest. The truss type of fruiting guarantees high productivity, and excellent adaptability will help the tomato withstand adverse weather conditions. Highly marketable fruits are used both for fresh consumption and for any kind of processing. Positive feedback from members of the forum confirms the wide popularity of this variety among gardeners in Russia, Moldova and Ukraine. He has only one drawback - the need to purchase seeds every year.
This variety of tomato with “noses” has been familiar to me since childhood. I love him for his special taste and the opportunity to feast on tomatoes at a time when other varieties are just beginning to bloom. Plus, he's not capricious at all. And it can grow both in a greenhouse and in open beds. But it is advisable to pluck out the extra stepsons in time and tie up the bushes. The only pity is that the whole bank does not fit. But the first tomato preservation I make is from "Prima Donna". My family is very fond of tomato slices with mustard in their own juice.
