Ducs first appeared in England in the 17th century. In Russia, the first duke was bred in 1888 and was called Krasa Severa. Its creator is the famous scientist I.V. Michurin, who owns another fairly well-known hybrid Black consumer goods. But, as it happened more than once, interest in these species began to gradually fade away. However, in the second half of the twentieth century, breeders again became interested in unusual forms. Work on the creation of new dukes was carried out by Ukrainian and Russian breeders. So, at the Rossoshanskaya zonal experimental gardening station, a cherry-cherry hybrid Nursery (formerly known as Dessertnaya Sycheva) was created, which is considered a very promising species. Its author is A.I. Sychev. The variety is not included in the State Register. Unfortunately, the dukes are still not accepted as a separate independent culture, and therefore they are periodically referred to as cherries or cherries. Despite the fact that there is very little official information about our heroine, gardeners who grow the variety give positive reviews about it. The culture shows good results in the middle lane and in the northern regions of Russia.

Description

The tree is medium in size. At a young age, skeletal branches, covered with a light brown bark with a grayish tint, depart from the trunk at an acute angle of 45 - 60 °, which is why the crown has a pyramidal shape. With age, the crown becomes rounded, the bark on the branches darkens. Young shoots are weakly arcuate. Moderate leafiness. The leaves of the Nurse are dark green, large, elongated-oval, very similar to cherry leaves. The fruiting nature of the variety is mixed. Most of the fruits are formed on bouquet cherry twigs.

Drupes are rather large, round in shape, weighing 7.5 - 7.8 grams. The abdominal suture is small, poorly expressed. The color of berries in the period of consumer ripeness is dark red. The pulp is of medium density, very tender, with a delicate and pleasant aroma. The taste is sweet, excellent, and is considered almost standard. Taste qualities are rated very high - by 4.8 points.

Characteristics

• In terms of ripening, the Nurse belongs to the mid-season. Cherry ripening in the south of the Central Black Earth Region begins on July 26 - 30;
• during the fruiting period, the variety enters the 3rd year after planting;
• the yield is stable and good - from 8.0 to 13.0 kg per tree;
• ripe fruits do not fall off, so you can take your time with harvesting. In addition, slightly overripe berries can only improve their taste characteristics;
• winter hardiness is pretty good. After the harsh winter of 2005-2006, the damage to eight-year-old cherries turned out to be insignificant, according to a 5-point system, they were estimated at 0.5-0.8 points;
• Flower buds of the Nurse are distinguished by winter hardiness in accordance with the standards of the Central Black Earth Region. Although it is noted that in the coldest winters, with a sharp drop in temperature to -30 ° C at the end of February, losses can be significant;
• cherry immunity is above average. The variety has resistance to coccomycosis, the defeat of moniliosis ranges from 1 to 2 points;
• transportability and keeping quality are not bad, but it is better not to transport ripe berries for long distances;
• the way of using the crop is universal. Berries in their natural form can be used instead of a dessert, or they can be processed into jam, jam, marmalade, compote and other preparations.

Pollinators

The nurse is self-fertile and therefore needs suitable pollinators. For this purpose, a duke of another variety or sweet cherry is suitable. But experienced gardeners still prefer cherry varieties, since they increase productivity.Try to plant cherries next to our heroine Iput, Jealous, Lyubskaya, Bead, Ovstuzhenka and you will not go wrong. You can also use cherry varieties as a pollinator, but in this case, our heroine will be able to tie only 1/3 of the possible harvest.

Planting and leaving

The planting date is spring or autumn, the main thing is to have time to carry out the procedure on time. For planting, take a sunny place, protected from the winter wind and drafts on the north side. Requirements for the composition of the soil and the level of groundwater are the same as for cherries. Leaving is uncomplicated. Young plants are watered up to 3 or 4 times a month. Watering of adult trees is carried out less often, but more abundantly, taking into account natural precipitation, so as not to overmoisten the soil. Feeding the Nurse is carried out 2 times a season. In the spring, nitrogen-containing fertilizers will help the variety quickly move into growth, and in the fall, phosphorus-potassium compounds will help prepare for the winter period. Manure can be used once every 2 - 3 years. Formative pruning is carried out for the first 3 to 4 years. Mature trees in spring are freed from excessive thickening and broken or frozen branches. When a decrease in the level of fruiting begins to be observed, anti-aging pruning is necessary. A winter-hardy crop does not need to be specially insulated for the winter. But you need to clean, whitewash the trunk and mulch the near-trunk circle.

The nurse is extremely popular due to her excellent taste, therefore she is undeservedly deprived of attention. Sweet berries are very fond of children and adults. Gardeners praise cherries for their good yields and ease of maintenance. Of course, there are also disadvantages. The main one is the need for pollinators. For a small garden, this is a big problem. But experienced gardeners have found a way out. They graft a branch of a suitable pollinator into the crown of our heroine. Thus, you can save space in the garden, and get an excellent harvest, and at the same time, taste 2 varieties from one tree at once.
