What to do if parsley turns yellow in the garden?

Parsley is one of the most popular spicy and aromatic cultures, without which many dishes are indispensable. It's no secret that green parsley is a good source of income, especially in the early spring and autumn periods. The cultivation of this culture is not difficult, but there are also pitfalls in this matter. For example, emerald leaves suddenly begin to turn yellow, and the plant loses its presentation. Why this happens, and what measures need to be taken - this is the topic of today's article.

The main causes of yellowing of parsley leaves

Premature yellowing of leaves can be the result of physiological disorders, as well as a symptomatic manifestation of some diseases.

Yellowing of a plant at the physiological level (premature aging) is often observed with a lack of moisture or due to a lack of basic nutrients. The lack of moisture is acutely felt in the summer (abnormally high temperatures have been observed in recent years). By the way, with insufficient humidity, there is also a shortage of batteries. The lack of mineral salts can also be a consequence of the clogging of the beds on which the crop is grown, since weeds are more adapted to unfavorable environmental conditions and parsley is not able to compete with them.

As for diseases that can provoke premature yellowing of leaves, it is necessary to note here peronosporosis (synonym - downy mildew). Peronosporosis is a fungal disease that affects not only parsley - downy mildew causes enormous damage to cucumbers, currants, gooseberries and other crops. Visually, peronosporosis can be determined by the appearance of small white spots on the leaves, which quickly increase in diameter, and subsequently the leaf blade turns yellow and dies off.

At the beginning of summer, brown spots may appear on the leaves - this is the so-called "rust" - a fungal disease that also affects rose bushes. Rust develops on plants under conditions of high humidity.

Yellowing of parsley (usually root) can also be caused by carrot fly larvae. Premature aging of the plant is also caused by the dominance of melon aphids, which are located on the back of the leaf blade and feed on the sap of the plant.

Disease and pest control methods

To protect yourself from unpleasant moments and avoid loss of yield, it is necessary to take care of the health of future plants already at the stage of preparing the garden. For parsley, it is necessary to allocate fertile areas free of weeds. The culture takes root well on structured sandy-humus soils, which are distinguished by high moisture capacity and air permeability. Parsley seeds sprout rather slowly, so a lighthouse culture (for example, radish) is mixed with them, which makes it possible to control weeds in the garden long before the emergence of shoots.

Sowing is carried out in early spring (late March - early April), while the soil is saturated with life-giving moisture, which ensures the normal development of seedlings. In the summer, if necessary, a garden bed with parsley is watered 1-2 times a week, and fertilizing is carried out with complex mineral fertilizers after each cut of greenery. Some gardeners practice podzimny sowing, shortly before the onset of frost - the seeds undergo natural stratification and hardening, seedlings appear much earlier and the plants develop better.

To protect against fungal diseases that can cause yellowing of the leaves, you can use approved products, for example, the drugs "Quadris", "Ridomil Gold".

Aphids, which cause significant damage to the crop, are carried by ants, so it is advisable to fight these insects, for example, by scattering poisonous baits based on boric acid in the aisles. There is an interesting method of dealing with carrot fly - alternating planting of parsley with onions - its smell repels the pest.

Follow these simple guidelines and parsley will reward you with a generous harvest.

If you suddenly notice that the parsley leaves are beginning to turn yellow, do not give up. You can save the harvest using a simple method. Take dandelion roots, orange peels and cover with warm water. Insist 3 hours, strain and spray the plants; sprinkle some ash under the roots. This method will help scare off the carrot fly and get rid of the aphids. To protect parsley from diseases and pests, never plant it next to vegetables, especially with the umbrella family and melons. Water and loosen the soil more often.
