Apple variety Anis Sverdlovsky
Anise Sverdlovskiy is an apple variety with late autumn ripening. Bred at the Sverdlovsk Experimental Gardening Station when crossing 2 fairly popular varieties - Melba (Melba) x Anise purple. The author of the variety is L.A. Kotov. The name itself indicates the place of the greatest distribution of Anis of Sverdlovsk - this is the region of the Ural region (novosadki).
Trees are medium-sized, the crown can have an oval or wide-pyramidal shape. The branching angle of the main branches from the trunk is approximately 60 degrees. The type of fruiting is mixed, but fruit setting occurs mainly on 2-year-old ringlets, densely covering the branches, less often on last year's growths.

Shoots of brown color, with strong pubescence, medium size, straight, in cross section - round. The leaves are green, medium-sized, rounded, the bases of the leaves are also rounded, the edges have crenate-serrated serration. The petioles are rather short, with small saber-shaped stipules.
The flowers are medium-sized, white in color with a slight pinkish tinge, saucer-shaped. Pink buds. The column of pistils and the bases of the columns are strongly pubescent, the column is very short in size, the stigmas of the pistils are located just below the level of the anthers.
The fruits of the Anis Sverdlovsky apple tree are usually of medium size, but they can be slightly smaller (the maximum weight of one apple, as a rule, does not exceed 100 - 120 grams), which is more than enough for the very harsh continental climate of the Urals. The apples are of the same size and regular rounded (less often oval) shape, the ribs are wide and barely noticeable. The skin is dry, smooth, with a glossy sheen and a slight waxy bloom. The main color of a ripe fruit is light yellow, the integumentary color is expressed in the form of a vague blush of deep red color over the entire surface of the apple or on a significant part of it. The stalks can be short or medium in length. The funnel is medium in size, conical in shape, the skin on it is practically free of rustiness. The saucer is rather small, narrow, folded. The calyx can be closed or half-open; it is rather small in size. The sub-cup tube is short in length; its shape varies from narrow conical to cylindrical. The heart is large, broadly cordate, almost onion-shaped. The central cavity is very narrow. Seeds are light brown in color, medium in size, ovoid in shape.

Anis Sverdlovsky apples are characterized by a very good and excellent sweet and sour taste, have a pleasant light aroma. The pulp is quite tender and juicy, light cream or white, fine-grained structure, medium density. In terms of chemical composition, apples contain: sugars (13.5%), ascorbic acid (14.4 - 22.5 mg / 100 g), P-active substances (234.8 - 409.9 mg / 100 g), acids titratable (0.83%).
The period of removable ripeness of fruits falls at the beginning of September, the consumption period lasts until the end of November - beginning of December. Due to the low keeping quality, the fruits of this apple tree are often used for canning and processing (juices, cider, etc.)
The Anis Sverdlovsky variety belongs to the early-fruiting - after budding, fruiting begins as early as the 4th year. Apple trees bear fruit regularly, the yield is average. Winter hardiness of the variety is quite high, the regenerative capacity of trees after freezing is high. Due to the lack of natural immunity to scab in the variety, the susceptibility of trees and fruits to this disease in rainy periods is significant.
The main advantage of this apple tree is the high commercial and consumer qualities of apples.
The main disadvantage of the variety is its susceptibility to scab damage in rainy and wet seasons, so you should not neglect pruning and shaping the crown when caring for apple trees, as well as using means of protection against fungal diseases.
I don't even know how to characterize this variety. But I came here to write about him. The tree is vigorous, very hardy. I don't know how old I am, but inside the barrel is completely empty, without a core. I'm over 40, and I remember him like that from childhood. They did not take care of him (no one knew how), and now I am afraid to do this, so as not to harm completely. Never froze over. I remember frosts for more than 40 weeks, but in spring everything is as usual - it blooms and bears fruit. Bears fruit annually, always with scab. Because of it, apples are of little use for storage. They are not stored for long and the taste deteriorates. They become soft and rot from scab. Healthy fruits last longer. I have not eaten more delicious apples. Truly, the fruits give out all the taste and aroma at the beginning of December. If winter is late, then apples hang on the trees and are quite suitable for eating, even on New Year's. It is during this period that you need to use carrion from trees. Literally 1 - 2 weeks after frost. An unforgettable and incomparable taste! 10 out of 10! I do not know how long my old tree will last, and whether the new seedlings will take root. I can say unequivocally - PLANT! If you process with chemistry, you may also get rid of the scab (the only drawback). I don’t do this in principle. Maybe that's why the apple tree is still alive and so happy.
The first apple tree appeared in our garden 10 years ago. It was Anis Sverdlovsky. We live in the Omsk region and we were advised to buy this variety, because it is frost-resistant. In our winter, the temperature reaches minus 45 degrees or more, not every apple tree will take root. And this one has taken root, but is sick. Every year in winter we cover it, but it freezes anyway. Frozen branches have to be cut in the spring. The apple tree is restored after winter for 1 - 1.5 months. Blooms in early June. It began to bear fruit only in 2015, when 9 years have passed since planting. The fruits are large, mainly on the lower branches, not on the upper ones. There are only 10 - 15 apples on one apple tree. The fruit tastes sweet and sour. Ripen in early September.
The variety is good. My advice to you is, from the first year, start covering the apple tree in the winter, so that it does not freeze and does not hurt later in the spring. Try to treat the apple tree annually with aphid remedies, do not start.
Perhaps, of all my apple trees, I had to deal with this most of all, because I often get sick. Either a scab, or a leaf roll, or something else. He does not like wet cold summers, but in the Ivanovo region there are such people in a year. Quite high, and we cut it off, otherwise it greatly shades the area. Apples ripen by about mid-September. I like the taste, I lower the harvest into the cellar, and for one and a half, or even two months, they are stored there. The taste, of course, changes, but I like that it does not become as cottony as in the White filling variety. While lying in the cellar, I have time to process some of them into jam, juices, and some we just eat.
I can only say the best about this variety. My Anis began to bear fruit late, I don't remember exactly what year, but not earlier than 5 years after planting. The first 2 years of apples are very few (5-6 pieces), but large. An apple weighing 168 grams became the champion. Now the 3rd year of fruiting, there are a lot of apples hanging. I live in Novosibirsk. The tree never froze, unlike some other apple trees. It didn't hurt at all. But I make sure that it does not thicken, in the spring I process Bordeaux. And that's it! The taste of apples is sweet and sour, aromatic and very juicy. The tree itself is very beautiful, fluffy, the branches grow almost from the ground. This is my favorite in the garden, I adore this apple tree for its beauty and delicious fruits!
The apples are very beautiful and delicious. The tree blooms profusely, there are no branches without buds, but bears fruit modestly. We distribute them for souvenirs, we haven't tried to store them. does not freeze.
