Apple variety Arkadik
Arkadik is an early summer apple tree obtained at the All-Russian Institute of Selection and Technology for Horticulture and Nursery (VSTISP, Moscow) by hybridizing an old Russian yellow summer variety Arkada with an American donor SR0523. The authorship belongs to V.V. Kichin. In fact, Arkadik acts as an improved form of Arcade yellow, its fruits grow larger. The variety is zoned for the regions of the Central region of Russia. Suitable for the Moscow region and more northern territory, where it often freezes Antonovka ordinary.
The trees are vigorous (2 - 4 meters high), fast-growing, very vigorous. High growth qualities of the variety are well manifested on various types of rootstocks, including dwarf ones. With the onset of fruiting, the growth rates of trees noticeably slow down. The crown is of medium density, round, slightly conical in shape. Shoots are thick, naked, rounded, red, compactly located on the branches. Leaves are medium in size, oblong-ovoid, green in color, with a smooth, matte surface. Fruiting is concentrated on numerous annelids. The variety is self-fertile.
The fruits of the Arkadik apple tree are of medium and large size (the mass of an apple usually ranges from 120 - 140 to 160 - 210 g, the largest specimens reach 340 g), one-dimensional, elongated, regular oblong shape, with a thin skin. The main color of the fruits is whitish-green, the integumentary color first appears through a slight red blush, but as the apples grow, it forms a beautiful striped dark red blush over most of the surface. The subcutaneous dots are medium in size, gray in color, weakly expressed and in small numbers.
The pulp is white, medium density, fine-grained, oily, very juicy, prickly, with a strong aroma and a pleasant dessert sour-sweet taste. The variety is rather sweet-fruited: sweetness prevails in the taste, sourness is felt very weakly.
The period of removable maturity occurs in mid-August. Fruits are stored for no more than 1 month.
The apple tree is high-fruiting: trees begin to bear fruit from the 3rd year. Fruiting is regular, annual, the frequency is very weak. The variety is high-yielding: each tree bears up to 150 - 220 kg of fruits, the average yield is 305 c / ha.
The variety is highly winter-resistant. Scab resistance is high. Drought resistance is average.
The obvious advantages of the Arkadik apple tree are: large, beautiful fruits of sweet dessert taste; winter hardiness, early maturity, productivity, resistance to diseases and pests.
In general, no significant shortcomings are observed. However, it is not worth delaying the harvesting process, because in the ripe state the fruits begin to crumble.
Also, due to the abundance of ringlets (and later on, apples), trees need full care, which necessarily includes regular feeding.
