Jung's apple variety (Snow White)

Jung is a semi-cultivated apple variety with fruits of late summer ripening, obtained in Altai through hybridization of 2 varieties - White filling x Invincible Grell. Since 2001 he was admitted to the State test, in 2004 - zoned. Widely distributed in private gardens throughout Western Siberia. Amateur gardeners often call this variety "Snow White".

Trees are medium-sized, spreading crown, medium density. Skeletal branches, when leaving the main trunk, form an almost right angle. The bark on the branches and trunk is brown. Tying of fruit formations occurs mainly on simple and complex ringlets. The apple tree is self-fertile.

Shoots are straight, fleecy, brown in color. Lentils are numerous. The buds are small, adpressed, rounded, fleecy. Leaves are medium in size, oblong, with serrated, wavy edges, colored light green. The leaf blade is concave, with a smooth, glossy surface and weak pubescence. Stipules are small, lanceolate. Petioles are of medium length, fleecy.

The fruits of Young's apple tree are small, below average size (apple weight ranges from 55 to 75 g, the largest specimens rarely reach 84 - 85 g), one-dimensional, rounded, with smooth ribbing. The skin is rather thin, with a slight waxy coating. In terms of the main color, the apples resemble White filling: in ripe they are light yellow, in unripe ones they are slightly greenish. The cover color is weak, expressed from the sunny side in the form of a light tan - a delicate, pink blush. The subcutaneous points are large, light. The peduncles are thin, long. The saucer is small, rather deep, ribbed. The calyx is half-open, medium in size. The funnel is deep, there is no rust. The seed nest is large, onion-shaped. The seed chambers are large and closed.

The pulp is whitish-cream color, fine-grained, medium-dense, juicy, with a good sweet-sour dessert taste. The tasting assessment of the taste of the variety reaches 4.5 - 4.8 points. By chemical composition, the fruits contain: the sum of sugars (up to 11.36%), titratable acids (up to 0.80%), ascorbic acid (about 18 mg / 100 g), P-active substances / catechins (about 200 mg / 100 d). A universal variety: fresh, dried fruits, processing (jam, jams, mousses, jellies, preserves, compotes, jelly, juices, fruit wines, cider).

The period of removable ripeness of fruits begins in the second half of August, in cold summer - at the end of August. The total storage period for apples does not exceed 30 days (until the end of September). Due to the low indicators of keeping quality and transportability, fruits are used in large volumes for processing.

The early maturation of Jung's apple tree is good: the trees bear fruit from the 4th year, the first 7 years - annually, then at regular intervals. Yields are average: for 7-year-old apple trees on average 4.3 t / ha, for 10-year-old - 11 kg / village, 11-year-old - up to 23 kg / village. (or up to 12.8 t / ha with a planting pattern of 6 * 3 m). The maximum yield does not exceed 40 kg / der.

In general, the variety is highly winter-hardy. In especially harsh winters, trees may freeze slightly, but after that they quickly recover. Scab resistance is quite high, but in epiphytotic years, fruits can be affected to a very weak degree (up to 0.5 points), leaves - slightly more (up to 2 points).

The main advantages of Jung's apple tree include: relatively large fruits (for Western Siberia) of summer ripening with a good dessert taste, high winter hardiness and scab resistance, widespread use of fruits.

No significant shortcomings have yet been found in the variety, but in some years chlorotic spots may appear on the leaves of apple trees, which does not impair the quality of the fruits and does not reduce the yield.
