Apple variety Belarusian sweet
Belorusskoe sweet is one of the best late winter apple varieties bred by the Belarusian Research Institute of Fruit Growing. The authorship is assigned to D.V. Grakovich, V.M. Evdokimenko, G.K. Kovalenko and G.M. Marudo. In 1999, the variety was transferred to the State Testing Network.
Trees are medium-sized and are characterized by fast growth rates: at the 8th year of life, apple trees reach their maximum height of 3.1 m.The crown is quite rare, slightly drooping, convenient for harvesting and pruning, round-conical in shape.
Fruits are above medium and large size (the mass of one apple usually ranges from 135 to 200 g, in rare cases, individual specimens can weigh up to 250 g), aligned, rounded, with a smooth surface. The appearance of the fruit is very attractive. During the period of removable maturity, the apples are greenish; when ripe, the fruits acquire a yellow color. The cover color is expressed through a blurred solid red blush.
The pulp is white, medium density, semi-oily consistency, delicate, slightly aromatic, with a good sweet taste, without acid. According to the originator, the tasting assessment of the taste of the variety on a 5-point scale is set at 4.0 - 4.1 points. However, lovers of sweet apples often give this variety a higher rating. By chemical composition, the fruits contain: dry matter (12.0%), the amount of sugars (9.4%), titratable acidity (0.16%), ascorbic acid (10.5 mg / 100 g).
In terms of ripening and consumption of fruits, Belorusskoe sweet belongs to late winter apple trees. Nevertheless, in some years the fruits may ripen earlier, and this variety manifests itself as late autumn. When ripe, the fruits do not crumble. The apples can be consumed immediately after being taken off. The shelf life of the fruits is long, until the beginning of February. However, if the term for harvesting the fruits is not observed, their storage period is reduced by 2 months.
Early fruiting is very high: when using clonal rootstocks MM-106, 5−25−3, 54−118 fruiting occurs in the first year after planting; on a stock 62−396 trees can begin to bear fruit from 2 to 3 years. The yield is also very high: at the age of 5, the trees yield 30 - 35 kg of fruits (with a planting scheme of 5 × 3m and using seed stock, the yield of 8-year-old trees is 17 t / ha). Fruiting is almost annual, without periodicity (except for extremely unfavorable conditions during the flowering period: prolonged rains, prolonged frosts and low air temperatures).
The apple tree has good winter hardiness. Frost resistance up to minus 36 ° C. The variety is endowed with absolute immunity to scab (Vf gene).
The obvious advantages of the Belarusian sweet apple tree are: extremely attractive fruits with high commercial qualities, resistance to scab, a high level of early maturity and yield.
There are no tangible flaws in the variety. But do not forget about the timely collection of fruits, otherwise keeping quality may deteriorate.
Why does it bear fruit faster on a medium-sized rootstock (54-118) than on a semi-dwarf (62-396) ??
