Cucumber variety Saracen (F1)

The Saracen is an early ripening cucumber hybrid bred in Turkey by Yuksel Seeds breeders. Designed for growing under plastic shelters in private garden plots. In 2011, the variety was added to the state register of the Russian Federation for the Middle Volga, North Caucasian, Central Chernozem, Volgo-Vyatka, Central, North and North-West regions.

The variety is parthenocarpic (does not require pollination by bees), vegetative type of growth. In the spring-summer turnover, the period from germination to fruiting is 35 - 40 days, in the summer-autumn - 32 - 35 days.

Plants are vigorous, indeterminate, female flowering type. The root system is powerful, rapidly developing - due to which this hybrid is resistant to wilting diseases, and is also capable of fruiting on soils infected with rootworm nematodes. The leaves are green, medium in size. On the main stem, 1 - 2 cucumbers are tied in one leaf sinus, in the knots of stepchildren - up to 5. Planting density - up to 2.5 plants / sq. M.

Since the Saracen variety has a high vigor, it should not be allowed to “fatten”. The ratio of nitrogen to potassium when feeding must be maintained in a ratio of 1: 1.5.

When a bush is formed on the main stem, at a height of up to 1 meter from the ground, all stepchildren are removed in the leaf axils, leaving only the ovaries. Further up the stem (above 1 meter) in the growing stepchildren, pinching is carried out over 1 - 2 leaves (depending on the density of plantings). Other types of formation are possible, the main thing is not to thicken the plantings so that the plants receive enough light, and monitor the air exchange in the greenhouse.

Zelentsy are cylindrical, medium-lumpy, 12 - 15 cm long, weighing 80 - 90 grams. The skin is dense, thin, dark green, without white stripes. The pubescence is very frequent. The thorns are white, prickly. The pulp is tasty, aromatic. The yield of marketable fruits in the first month of fruiting is 10 - 11 kg / m2, for the entire growing season - about 20 kg / m2. The output of marketable products is 95 - 98%. The picking of cucumbers is carried out every other day.

The variety is salad, but it is also suitable for preparations for the winter. For canning, it is better to remove the fruits in the gherkin stage.

The Saracen hybrid is resistant to root rot, brown spot, cucumber mosaic virus and powdery mildew, tolerant to downy mildew. Unpretentious in nutrition, but whimsical to lighting - without light, fruits can grow hooked. Not afraid of sudden changes in temperature. Fruits not picked in time do not "barrel", continuing to grow without losing their shape.

Advantages of the Saracen cucumber: excellent taste of the fruit, high yield, transportability, stress resistance.

In Ukraine, this hybrid is sold under the name Mosaic (Mosaic).
