Apple variety Ligol
Ligol is a winter apple variety obtained by crossing Linda and Golden Delicious at the Polish Institute of Horticulture and Floriculture (Skierniewice) in 1972.
The tree is medium-sized, by the age of ten the apple tree reaches a height of 3.5 meters, has a wide-pyramidal crown, characterized by medium thickening. The branches are located to the trunk at an angle of 60 - 85 degrees. Suitable for spindle shaping crown pruning.
The frost resistance of the variety is quite high. The apple tree has good scab and powdery mildew resistance. Resistance to fire blight is below average. The apple tree is susceptible to some wood diseases. Fruits, if stored improperly, can be affected by bitter pitting and sunburn of the skin.
Ligol is an early fruit variety. Begins to bear fruit at the age of 3 years, the yield from one tree during these periods is 3.5 - 5.5 kg. Has a high rate of increase in productivity. The type of fruiting is mixed.
The apple tree has an average flowering period, which lasts 7 to 10 days. Has a high ability to shoot. The end of shoot growth is observed in late July - early August. The leaves fall from the tree in late October - early November.
The variety is self-fertile. The ovary is best formed by pollination with pollen from varieties such as Champion, Idared, Spartan, Gloucester, Golden Delicious, Vitos, Champion Arno, Gold Rush, Fuji, Elstar, Lobo, Mac... Ligol is an excellent pollinator for many apple trees, with the exception of varieties Jonagold and Idared.
The yield of the variety is very high. Ten-year-old trees are capable of producing 15.5 t / ha of fruit. There is a tendency to periodicity with excessive thickening of the crown. Therefore, it needs thinning of the ovaries and regular summer (green) pruning. There may be a transfer of the crop from one side of the crown to the other.
The apples are ready to eat at the end of September. Reach full consumer maturity in the month of January.
The fruits are highly marketable. Large and very large. One apple weighs an average of at least 250 g. Some specimens reach a weight of 400 g. Fruits are one-dimensional, have a round-conical regular shape, ribbing is observed at the calyx, and a side seam is often observed. Over the years, there is an insignificant decrease in the average weight of fruits.
The calyx is not large, the sepals are tightly closed, sometimes the calyx is half-open. The funnel is straight, medium-deep, heavily rusted. The peduncle is short, does not extend beyond the funnel, thickened from above.
The skin is dense, smooth, with a glossy sheen. The color is greenish-yellow, with a deep red blush around the larger circumference of the fruit. Numerous subcutaneous points are light, clearly visible. Assessment of the appearance of the fetus - 4.8 points.
The flesh is creamy or light yellow, firm with fine grains, crispy, chipping, extremely juicy. The apple is very aromatic, has an excellent sweet taste with a pleasant sourness. The taste was rated by tasters at 4.6 points.
The fruits are distinguished by excellent transportability and good keeping quality. Stored for up to 6 months (October to April) in a cool, dark place. They require compliance with storage conditions, otherwise the presentation of apples deteriorates. The fruits are highly transportable.
The fruits of the Ligol apple tree are well suited for consumption both fresh and for various types of processing.
For its high yield, endurance above average, undemanding agricultural technology and high-quality fruit, the Ligol apple tree is classified as a commercial variety.
