Pear variety Elegant Efimova
Elegant Efimova is an early autumn pear variety bred in 1936 at the All-Russian Institute of Selection and Technology for Horticulture and Nursery (VSTISP, Moscow) through crossing the Tonkovotka variety with Clapp's favorite... The authorship is assigned to V.A. Efimov. In 1974 the variety was released in the Central Region. Recommended for growing in Moscow, Ryazan, Smolensk, Kaluga, Tula, Oryol, Bryansk regions.
At the International Agricultural Exhibition in the German city of Erfurt, held in 1989, the Naryadnaya Efimova variety was singled out among many others and was awarded a gold medal for the high commercial and consumer qualities of the fruit.
The trees grow to large sizes, the crown is characterized by medium thickening, fast growth rates, and a pyramidal shape. Skeletal branches form sharp corners when they leave the trunk. The surface of the bark on the trunk and main branches is smooth and gray in color. Fruiting of a mixed type: most often fruit formations are tied on spears, simple and complex ringlets, short and long fruit twigs.
Shoots are not pubescent, straight, slightly geniculate, brownish-brown in color. Lentils are of medium size, rarely found on the shoot. The kidneys are medium in size, conical in shape, bent, smooth. The leaves are large, elliptical, short-pointed, with finely serrated serration along the edge, dark green in color. The leaf blade is glossy, with a smooth surface, light venation, flat in shape. The leaf petioles are medium in length, thin, not fuzzy.
The flower buds are smooth, medium-sized, elongated. The flowers are medium in size, very fragrant, and white in color. The petals are oval in shape.
The fruits of the Nadyadnaya Efimova variety are medium in size (pear weight usually ranges from 90 to 120 g, the largest specimens in rare cases can reach 150 - 180 g), one-dimensional, regular elongated pear-shaped. The skin on the fruit is smooth, with numerous well-defined medium-sized subcutaneous punctures. At the moment of ripening, the fruits are greenish-yellow in the main color, the integumentary color is located on most of the fruit in the form of a purple blush. In the period of consumer maturity, the main color of the fruit becomes light yellow, the cover color becomes red. Peduncles of medium thickness, long, curved, set at an angle. There is no funnel or it is shallow. The cup is open, non-falling. The saucer is small. The sub-cup tube is medium in size. The heart is medium in size, reverse heart-shaped. Seed chambers are closed. The seeds are large enough, dark brown in color.
The pulp of the fruit is whitish-cream colored, dense in structure, semi-oily, tender, juicy, with a light aroma, good sour-sweet harmonious taste, slightly tart. On a 5-point tasting scale, the external attractiveness of the fruit is estimated at 4.5 points, the taste - at 4 points. By chemical composition, the fruits contain: the sum of sugars (9.3%), acids (0.13%).
In Moscow, the period of removable fruit ripeness falls on the end of August - the beginning of September (depending on weather conditions). But in any case, for this variety, it is extremely important to adhere to one simple rule when picking up: do not allow pears to ripen on the tree, but shoot them "in green",
The early maturity of the variety is at an average level: the trees enter the fruiting season at 7 - 8 years. Fruiting is annual. The yield is high (up to 30 t / ha). The level of winter hardiness is above average. Scab resistance is quite high.
The main advantages of the Nadyadnaya Efimova pear include: high commercial and consumer qualities of fruits, good winter hardiness, stable fruiting.
The disadvantages include: relatively late entry into the season of fruiting, difficulties in determining the moment of picking fruits.
This variety is used in breeding work as a donor of winter hardiness and yield.
Of the Soviet varieties, a very good early autumn variety, handsome! It is stored, however, not for long.
Nadyadnaya Efimova acquired a pear sapling in 2015 (two-year-old), and in 2017 she already received its first fruits. True, there were few fruits, only five pieces. The taste is wonderful, met all expectations !!!
Breed the variety since 1992. With the arrival of ervinia (fire blight) in the last five-year period, reproduction had to be stopped. The variety is probably the most vulnerable. 4 TREES DIED IN 2 MONTHS. It's a pity. I haven't eaten such pear jam anymore.
