Rose Sphinx (Sphinx)

Yellow roses are given very often today, since they are believed to contribute to improving the financial situation. It is not known whether this is so, but flowers with such a cheerful color definitely raise the mood. Plant a Sphinx species in your garden - it will make you smile and enjoy every day you live!

History of creation and description of the variety

A culture with a mysterious name that evokes thoughts of Ancient Egypt appeared in 1997 in Holland. Sphinx was created by Prego Royalty BV. Its direct author was the breeder Theodorus A. Segers. Registration name of the ornamental plant: PREdehen 97-11.

This lovely rose is eye-catching thanks to its elegant yet vibrant flowers. Their shape is not quite usual: wavy at the edges, spirally laid petals form a bowl with a slightly flattened bottom. The diameter of the bud in the phase of dissolution is 7-8 cm. The yellow tint of the flowers of the plant is associated in some with a wonderful sunny day, in others - with a sea sandy beach, in others - with a hot summer. Flowers are formed on the tops of the stems of the shrub, one at a time. Their aroma is pleasant, but not very pronounced. The outer petals are slightly bent. The flowers of this plant are medium-sized, the number of petals in each of them is 35-40 pieces. The perennial blooms for a long time and profusely until autumn, practically without a break. The beginning of the flowering phase is mid-June.

The plant forms a short, compact bush, the height of which ranges from 50 to 70 cm, and the width does not exceed 0.6 meters. There are few thorns on the strong stems of the rose. Perennial leaves are green, with a semi-glossy surface. This variety is characterized by good winter hardiness (withstands frosts down to -23 ° C), high immunity to diseases. The luxurious flowers of a spectacular perennial are absolutely not afraid of rain; if they fade in the sun, then only slightly; in the heat - do not bake. Overall, the Sphinx is a beautiful and fairly hardy variety.

Growing and care

Like all tea hybrids, the owner of sun-colored buds needs a humus-rich, light, loose, slightly acidic soil, enough light and good air circulation. Sphinx should not be planted in lowlands, in places where the water table is too high. The rose develops well in partial shade.

Planting the plant should be carried out in the spring, but you can do this in the fall, but it is imperative before the onset of frost, because the perennial must have time to take root. This procedure is standard: the soil is dug up, a hole is made in it with a depth of at least half a meter, a drainage layer is laid on the bottom of the hole, followed by a soil mixture from garden soil, peat and humus. The seedling is lowered into a recess and covered with the remaining soil. At the end, the plant is thoroughly watered with lukewarm, soft water.

The Sphinx is an unpretentious plant. So that during its cultivation there are no significant problems, you just need to remember about timely watering with cool, settled water, top dressing of decorative perennials with organic matter and complex fertilizers, and in spring and before cold weather perform sanitary pruning. Procedures such as loosening and mulching the soil under the flower will not be superfluous. Do not neglect weeding, and it is also important to remove faded buds from the rose in time in order to stimulate the appearance of new inflorescences on the bush. By the way, in the first year of life, it is better not to allow the appearance of flowers on the culture, then in the future it will delight you with a longer and more violent flowering.

To protect the Dutch lady from a possible attack of insect pests, it is recommended to spray the plant with an insecticide solution 2-3 times during the growing season. Preventive treatment of shoots with a fungicide to reduce the risk of developing fungal diseases also does not hurt. It is imperative to cover the rose bush for the winter. Spruce branches or non-woven fabric will serve as a good insulation.

Use cases

Spectacular Sphinx is suitable for group and mixed plantings. It looks amazing in the company of miniature evergreens, flowering perennials and annuals. A special charm to culture is given by the environment, consisting of ornamental grains and fragrant herbs. A beautiful flower can be planted in curbs, in flower beds, near the gazebo and near the facade of the home. The Sphinx is an excellent cut variety. Its bright yellow flowers are often used by florists to create luxurious compositions for various celebrations.
