Rogneda pear variety
Rogneda is an early autumn pear variety obtained by the specialists of the RSAU-Moscow Agricultural Academy named after V.I. K.A. Timiryazeva when crossing varieties Forest Beauty and Topic... Such well-known breeders as S. T. Chizhov, S. P. Potapov, as well as V. I. Susov, N. V. Agafonov, A. G. Matushkin, A. V. Isachkin took part in the breeding work. Super winter-hardy Tema is the result of successful hybridization between the Ussuri and common pear, and Rogneda has successfully inherited many of the positive qualities of a wild relative.
The variety has been on state testing since 1997. Included in the State Register for the Central Region in 2001. In terms of the sum of its characteristics, this is one of the best varieties for the middle lane, where it became widespread. This pear is especially often found in the Moscow and Kaluga regions.
The tree is medium-sized. The crown is compact, medium-leafy, wide-pyramidal or rounded oval. Kidney awakening is high (up to 70%), but the ability to develop growth shoots is rather weak (about 10%). Fruiting is mixed, occurs mainly on young ringlets.
Shoots are slightly curved, geniculate, greenish-brown in color, with a dark purple tint. Lentils are medium-sized, elongated, few in number. The buds are short, conical, half-pressed. The leaves are dark green, medium in size, obovate, serrated along the edge. The petiole is of medium length and thickness, the stipules are small.
Flowering occurs in medium terms, the flowers have good resistance to spring temperature changes. The variety is partially self-fertile.
The fruits of the Rogned pear are medium-sized (from 120 to 140 g), round in shape (sometimes they are flat-round or wide-rhombic). The shape index (ratio of height to diameter) for this pear is 0.92. The skin is smooth, shiny, of medium thickness and firmness. The main color of the fruit during the removable period is light yellow. Sometimes, during the ripening period, an integumentary color in the form of a red tan appears on the skin of the fruit from the sunny side. The subcutaneous points are numerous, small. The funnel and saucer are small, narrowed. The cup is half-open. The peduncle is thick and short.
The pulp is creamy, semi-oily, medium density, very juicy. The taste is sweet, practically without sourness. The peculiarity of the variety is a magnificent nutmeg aroma, comparable to the smell of southern pears. According to the chemical composition, the fruits contain: the sum of sugars 7.5%, solids 13.7%, the sum of acids 0.15%. Appearance and tasting score in the range of 4.1 - 4.2 points.
The period of removable maturity falls on the 2nd - 3rd decade of August (from the 10th to the 30th). Consumer maturity comes a little later, in late August or early September, and is characterized by rapid overripening and shedding of fruits, a sharp reduction in shelf life. In this regard, pears are recommended to be removed a little unripe and stored outside the refrigerator for 10 - 20 days, and in the fruit storage - up to 2 months.
The Rogneda pear is distinguished by its early maturity, the first fruits can be obtained already 3-4 years after vaccination. The yield is good, averaging 140 kg / ha (which is higher than that of the control variety Elegant Efimova), however, fruiting is characterized by a sharp frequency. In this regard, it is recommended to remove part of the ovaries after natural shedding in June, as well as to carry out regulatory pruning and installation of chatals.
The winter hardiness of the tree is excellent. Even when cultivated in Siberia (foothills of Altai and Minusinsk valley), the variety showed its best side, only minor cases of freezing were revealed. In addition, there is a high resistance to diseases of fruit rot and scab (fruits and leaves).
The Rogneda variety has such advantages as early maturity, excellent taste of fruits, good winter hardiness and resistance to a complex of diseases.
Among the shortcomings, there are periodicity in fruiting, shedding of fruits and a dull cover color of ripe pears, which reduces the commercial quality.
Everything is correctly written about early maturity. In the fourth year of life, about 20 fruits were harvested from the tree. Vaccination - on the Ussuri pear. The fruits are not very large, but sweet, pleasant to the taste. The height of our tree is about three meters, but it will still grow.
Rogneda was planted in 2010, the fruits are delicious, with a clear nutmeg aroma, very tasty jam with caramel flavor, excellent in compotes! The description is fully consistent with reality.
