Pear variety Sverdlovchanka
Sverdlovskaya is a pear of joint selection of the Sverdlovsk and Saratov experimental gardening stations with the fruits of the autumn-summer ripening period. Initially, the variety was bred by the famous Ural breeder L.A. Kotov on the Sverdlovsk OSS through pollination of the flowers of the field lukashka with a pollen mixture of southern varieties (the Bere Mlievskaya variety is often mentioned in the descriptions). Later, one 4-year-old was selected from the grown seedlings, propagated by grafting and transferred to G.V. Kondratyeva to a more southern zone, to the city of Saratov. Here, they worked on the variety at the Saratov OSS together with the Saratov Agricultural Academy named after V.I. N.I. Vavilov.

The variety is zoned in the Lower Volga region. Sverdlovchanka is on the State test in the Ural and Volga-Vyatka regions. It is most widespread in the Saratov region, where it has also already earned a reputation as one of the best pear varieties. In addition to the Urals and the Volga-Vyatka region, the variety is recommended for cultivation in the Central region.
The trees grow to medium size. Crohn medium thickened, has a compact, rounded or wide pyramidal shape. The main branches, with a greenish-dark gray bark, are raised upward. Fruiting is concentrated on numerous branched ringlets (starting with biennial wood) and on last year's increments.
Shoots not faceted, straight, greenish-brown color. The leaves are glossy, dark green, elliptical and ovoid in shape, the edges are finely serrated. The lamina is flat or slightly folded. The petioles are long. Stipules are small in size, saber-shaped in shape.
The flowers are medium in size, cupped, white in color. The stigma of the pistils is at the same height as the anthers. Flowering occurs at a later date. The variety is self-fertile.
The fruits are rather large, not less than average size (the mass of one pear is on average 130 - 140 g, and does not exceed 180 g), regular pear-shaped (varies from elongated to short), with a smooth surface. At the moment of ripening, the fruits are colored pure green. During ripening, the main color of the fruit becomes yellowish; The integumentary color often appears on the sunny side of the fruit in the form of a slight blush, but may be absent. The subcutaneous points are well expressed and colored green. The stalks are long. The saucer is shallow in depth, but wide enough. Open cup. The heart has a wide heart shape. Seed chambers are closed.
The pulp is white, with a yellowish tinge, thin, tender, oily type, very juicy, aromatic, practically without stony cells, very good and excellent sour-sweet taste. By chemical composition, the fruits contain: the sum of sugars (9.9%), titratable acids (0.2%). Tasting assessment of taste on a 5-point scale - not less than 4.2 points.
In the conditions of the Sverdlovsk region, this pear belongs to varieties with an autumn ripening period and fruit consumption: removable maturity occurs in mid-September, the consumption period lasts 1.5 months and ends at the end of October. In the conditions of the Saratov region, the Sverdlovchanka belongs to the late summer varieties of the dessert type. In addition, the yellow color of the fruit is much more pronounced here.
The marketability of the fruits is good. When ripe, the pears do not crumble and continue to firmly hold on to the branches. Transportability is quite good. The variety is early-growing, the trees begin to bear fruit from the 3rd - 4th year after budding, rather quickly increasing the volume of the crop. Fruiting is characterized by abundance and regularity. The variety is highly productive (more than 200 kg / ha).
The level of winter hardiness is generally quite high (up to minus 38 ° C). But in the conditions of the Middle Urals, in the farthest northern part of the distribution, frost resistance is at an average level. It is here that the Sverdlovchanka is recommended to be grown for greater reliability in grafting on a high winter-hardy stem (about 120 cm) or on skeletons (Ussuri pear and its hybrids). Resistance to fungal diseases is high.
The main advantages of the Sverdlovchanka pear include: a very large size of fruits (especially in the Urals) and their dessert taste, high yield rates, disease resistance and winter hardiness.
The disadvantages include only the average level of winter hardiness along the northern border of the distribution area and the almost complete absence of cover color on the fruits.
Awesomely delicious Sverdlovchanka pears! Oily, juicy, melting, almost sweet with a slight sourness. I am very pleased with this variety.
Sverdlovchanka was planted 9 years ago, began to bear fruit for 4 years. We cannot be happy that we have chosen this variety. When in the first year it bore fruit (there were only 15 of them), I was simply stunned by their juiciness and taste: it felt like I returned to my childhood, in the days of the USSR. In the second year, it has already given a bountiful harvest.
It grows in our pyramid. We are in the Middle Urals - it does not freeze out, does not become covered with scab, the fruits are large. Reaches ripeness in late August - early September. The only drawback is that when ripe, you need to have time to eat quickly, otherwise it becomes soft and crumbles within two weeks.
What varieties are needed for pollination?
We also really liked this pear. Planted in the spring of 17 September 1, already eaten the first pear. There was one, but the weight was 250 g. Very tasty! We have a dwarf one.
Sverdlovsk woman is 10 years old, but only bloomed and that's it. There is no fruit.
And where did you buy Sverdlovchanka? I wanted to have Miroleeva in the Gardens of the Urals, read the information and take doubts that it will freeze out.
What area do you live in? I took it from a local nursery.
The pear is not bad, but it takes a warm summer to ripen.
