Desiree potato variety

Potatoes are called the second bread for a reason. Any gardener will always find a place for this culture, even in a small area. Someone has favorite and proven varieties, someone is always looking for something new. In the tested category, a Dutch variety called Desiree has firmly established itself. The date of its registration is distant 1978. It was included in the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation 19 years later, in 1991. A favorable area for cultivation is the Middle Volga region (the Republics of Mordovia and Tatarstan, Penza, Samara, Ulyanovsk regions). Recommended for farms and personal subsidiary plots.

Description

The plant is spreading, well leafy. The leaves are dark green, with a matte surface and medium venation. Inflorescences are spreading, the corolla of the flower is red-violet. Long flowering. Berries are rarely formed. The tuber is oval in shape, with a dense red skin, superficial and few eyes. The pulp is light yellow. Good taste. The pulp is slightly sweetish, not watery, does not darken when cutting and heat treatment. The nest contains 18 to 20 potatoes, each weighing 52 to 104 grams. The starch content in the pulp is 13.5 - 21.5%, which meets the standards.

Characteristics

• From the moment of planting to harvesting, it takes from 80 to 95 or 100 days, depending on weather conditions;
• The commercial yield of Desiree is 29 c / ha higher than that of the Post 86 standard and amounts to 101 - 139 c / ha, which corresponds to the Gatchinsky standard;
• the marketability of potatoes is high - up to 94%;
• the variety perfectly tolerates temperature extremes. It can withstand frosts down to -3 ° С, but it is especially appreciated for its drought resistance;

• the immunity is average. Resistance to cancer is high; phomoses are affected at an average level. Leaves are highly vulnerable to late blight, and tubers to a lesser extent. Susceptible to common scab;
• quite easily transfers transportation over long distances and has good keeping quality - up to 95%;
• intended for making soups, mashed potatoes, frying and stewing. Especially recommended for the preparation of chips.

Features of agricultural technology

Before planting, the seed must necessarily undergo pre-sowing preparation in order to have a greater resistance to diseases. Although the variety is unpretentious to soils, it is best to select areas with light loamy or sandy loam soils for its cultivation. Landing is best done in early May, when the threat of return frosts has passed. Planting scheme: row spacing - 60 cm, the distance between tubers in a row should be 35 cm. The planting depth of planting material is 8 - 10 cm. Desiree is very responsive to fertilizing and watering. It is good to select places for cultivation in areas after winter, annual and perennial grasses, legumes. On sandy soils, choose lupine as green manure. You can dig up young potatoes already in the middle of summer. But massive cleaning is carried out in September.

The advantages of Desiree are stable good yield, beautiful marketable tubers, and the plasticity of the variety. It is especially appreciated by chip manufacturers.

The disadvantage of the variety is its weak resistance to some diseases of the culture. But this defect can be easily eliminated by pre-planting tubers and preventive measures during the cultivation of potatoes.
