Potato variety Symphony

Symphony is a medium-late table potato variety (Solanum tuberosum) of Dutch selection. Bred by employees of the company "HZPC Holland B. V." In 1996, it was included in the state register of plants of the Russian Federation. Approved for cultivation in the Central region of Russia (Bryansk, Vladimir, Ivanovsk, Kaluga, Moscow, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tula regions). Differs in high productivity, undemanding to soil and climate. Suitable for mechanical cleaning. Susceptible to late blight.

The period from the moment of emergence to harvest is 100-120 days.

The plant is tall, erect. One nest can form 8-11 tubers with an average weight of 70-140 grams. They have an oval shape and a flat surface without defects (bumps and potholes). The peel is red. The cut flesh is yellow in color.

According to the results of state tests, the average potato yield was 200-460 c / ha. The maximum indicator was recorded at around 612 c / ha, which is a very excellent result. Marketability is quite high - 81−92%. Keeping quality is 95%.

Symphony's taste is very good, even excellent. The tubers boil well, are best suited for mashed potatoes, however, they will show themselves excellently in other dishes. Unless they are particularly suitable for making salads and soups. The pulp contains a fairly large amount of starch - 13-19%. Thanks to this, our hero becomes suitable for processing into crispy potatoes.

The variety is quite picky about soil fertility. However, it can be cultivated on a wide variety of soils, but before planting potatoes, they should be well prepared - fertilized, plowed, furrowed. Plants are able to adapt to different climatic conditions, but show the best yields in regions with a mild climate. They are unpretentious in care, but respond very well to additional watering and the introduction of increased doses of fertilizers. Particular attention should be paid to timely preventive treatment of potatoes from late blight, and one should not neglect the maintenance of crop rotation on the site.

Symphony is resistant to cyst nematode and cancer, relatively resistant to common scab. It is susceptible to late blight by tops and tubers; without taking preventive measures, it can be very strongly affected by them.

The advantages of our hero include excellent taste, high yield, the ability to adapt to any growing conditions. The resistance of tubers to mechanical damage, as well as their excellent keeping quality, deserves attention. But still, the variety has a significant drawback - vulnerability to late blight. Currently, breeders have bred many varieties that are highly resistant to this disease, while not inferior to our hero in terms of yield. To summarize, it should be said that Symphony has not gained enough popularity, however, this potato is quite good and obviously will not disappoint you if you take a little care of it.
