Cucumber variety Altai

The homeland of cucumber is considered to be the tropical and subtropical regions of India. But in cold Siberia and the Urals, this culture also grows, thanks to the painstaking work of breeders. In 1977, the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Growing" registered a novelty called Altai. It was included in the State Register of Plants of the Russian Federation in 1981. The regions allowed for cultivating the variety are in the zone that is not entirely comfortable for this vegetable - the Ural, West Siberian, East Siberian, Far Eastern and Volgo-Vyatsky. This cucumber is recommended for outdoor cultivation. Not a hybrid.

Description

The stem is creeping, herbaceous, 1.2 meters long. Branching intensity is medium. The main stem grows from 3 to 5 shoots. Stems are rounded or slightly faceted, covered with fine villi over the entire surface. The leaf is medium-sized, green in color, pentagonal in shape. The surface is rough, slightly wrinkled between the veins, which is especially noticeable on young leaves. The petiole is long, also rough. The flowering type is female. The flowers are five-lobed, yellow.

The fruits of the variety are small, oval, aligned, bright green. The base is smooth. The skin of the cucumber is not very thick. The surface is covered with few tubercles. The thorns are small, black, during ripeness they easily fall off when touched. The mass of the greenery is from 90 to 118 grams. Length - 9 - 13 cm, in cross section it looks round-triangular, diameter - 3.5 - 4 cm. Altai belongs to the beam. The ovary is oval, covered with dense white pubescence. The pulp is dense, juicy, crunchy remarkably. The taste is wonderful, without bitterness.

Characteristics

  • The variety belongs to the early maturing. After full shoots appear, the crop can be harvested in 1.5 months, that is, in the first half of July;
  • marketable yield is 3.6 - 3.8 kg per square meter. Collecting zelents is carried out 2 times a week;
  • Altai has good immunity, cucumber is resistant to downy mildew and relative resistance to bacterial spotting;

  • the plant has good cold resistance. Even sharp drops in temperature will not affect yields;
  • the variety belongs to bee-pollinated;
  • fruit transportability is good. They are stored perfectly, without losing their marketable qualities;
  • the application is universal. Altai is equally good fresh and canned. Great for pickling.

Features of agricultural technology

Direct sowing of seeds into the ground is carried out at the end of April or May, when the daytime temperature is stable at about 15 ° C, and the night does not drop below 8 ° C. The seed is planted to a depth of 1.5 - 2 cm. If the weather has deteriorated after sowing, the bed must be covered with a foil. Cucumber seedlings are planted in mid-May. By this time, the seedlings should be 25 days old. You need to pour a nutritious soil mixture into the hole, consisting of peat, humus, mineral fertilizers and sand. Planting scheme - 8 - 10 plants per 1 square meter. Plants are watered systematically and only with warm water. Nutrition is added once every 10 days, for example, 10 g of urea per 1 liter of water. Culture is responsive to organics.

Altai can also be grown in greenhouses. But indoors, more maintenance is required. In addition, you should leave the greenhouse doors open on warm days so that pollinating insects can easily penetrate the plants.

The variety is highly prized for its good cold weather resistance, early ripening and high yields. In addition, cucumbers are ideal for pickling and preserving.
