Radish variety French breakfast

The French breakfast variety, with such a sophisticated name, is not a foreign radish at all, as it might seem at first glance, but a domestic one. It was brought out by scientists of the research and production firm "Russian seeds". The registration date of the application is 2001, and since 2003, having passed state tests, it was entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation. Approved for cultivation in all regions of Russia. Recommended for garden plots, home gardens and small farms.

Appearance

Semi-upright leaf socket. Leaves are semi-ovate, yellowish-green. The surface is medium pubescent. The petiole has an anthocyanin coloration. The root crop is elongated, elongated-cylindrical, with a flat head. Length 6 - 8 cm, circumference 2 - 2.5 cm, weight 12 g. The skin is bright red-crimson, the tip is white. The radish pulp is moderately dense, but juicy, with a pleasant sweetish taste, crunchy. The taste of the variety is assessed as excellent.

Characteristics

  • The French breakfast refers to early ripening - from the moment of full sprouting to harvest, 20 - 25 days pass. Fast ripening allows you to get several harvests per season;
  • average yield - 1.3 kg / square meter. The best performance can be achieved indoors;
  • has excellent resistance to shooting;

  • disease resistance is high;
  • tolerates a drop in temperature well;
  • radish has an excellent presentation, tolerates transportation well and is stored for a long time;
  • eaten fresh, very good in salads.

Features of agricultural technology

Planting scheme: row spacing 10 cm, distance between plants - 6 - 7 cm. If the crops turned out to be thickened, they need to be thinned out. The first sowing can be carried out at the end of March, but the beds must be covered with light film greenhouses at night to protect them from possible frost. The species does not like a lot of nitrogen in the soil. The watering schedule must be followed strictly, but without fanaticism. In excessively moist and overdried soils, the variety will not show its capabilities. Also, the plant prefers well-lit areas. In shading, the leaf rosette will stretch, and the root crop will shrink.

Advantages and disadvantages

Radish French breakfast undoubtedly has many positive qualities that have made the culture popular among gardeners. It can be used in tight fit, which is very space saving. Good resistance to weather changes and disease facilitates maintenance. A short growing season allows you to get more than one harvest per season. And if you grow the variety indoors, then the vegetable will be on the table all year round. Excellent marketability, transportability and long storage - this combination is always of interest to gardeners and farmers who grow vegetables for sale.

The disadvantages of the variety are relative. If you follow the watering regime and carry out prophylaxis against pests (cruciferous fleas and aphids), then there will be no problems with growing radishes.

I have known French breakfast radishes for about five years. We sow it as early as possible, as soon as the ground after winter dries up enough to make a bed. And we are looking forward to the first vitamins.There is no bitterness and pungency in this variety at all, you can calmly rinse and crunch without bread and salt, enjoying the juicy sweetish delight. Even the leaves of the French Breakfast have no bitterness, and they also go to the very first salads. This radish grows more in length than in width. If the soil is not loose enough, you can harvest with twisted pigtails and a part of the fruit curved closer to the roots.

One of my favorite varieties because of the elongated fruit. I plant it in a greenhouse and look forward to always the first harvest, after winter I would rather like fresh fruits! Ripens quickly, the fruits are juicy and sweet. Everything goes into the salad - both tops and roots. It gets warmer - I plant in open areas. Bad weather for this variety is not a problem, it is hardy. The shooter does not give practically. And after plucking from the garden, it retains its fresh appearance for a long time.

It is unpretentious in cultivation, the main thing is to water and collect on time. During the season, I sow it 5 - 6 times, with a difference of a week or two, so that it ripens gradually and does not outgrow.

I have been growing French radish breakfast in my home in Kherson for a long time. A very good variety. It ripens one of the first and is very good in taste - juicy, tender pulp. If you sample every other day and do not let it overripe, then this is one of the best varieties of radish. Well, how they all do not tolerate the lack of moisture in the soil. I use drip irrigation every other day. In this case, a small volume of water is consumed and it falls exactly as intended.
