Rose Eddy Mitchell

There are varieties of roses whose beauty is not too obvious. Someone exalts their appearance to the skies, showing sincere admiration, and someone cannot understand in any way what their opponents found special, although in noble, but nondescript colors. A variety with an unusual name Eddie Mitchell is just one of this category.

History of creation

The original variety appeared in 2008 thanks to the work of French breeders. The specialists obtained a hybrid by crossing three varieties of the flower queen: Madame Antoine Meilland (abbreviated as Mme. A. Meilland), Epidor and Yakimour. The breeding place of the tea hybrid is the Meilland nursery, named after the family that created it. The variety is named after the star of French show business Eddie Mitchell. Other rose denominations: Garden Director Bartje Miller, MEIrysett, The RSL Rose. She also has more picturesque names: Black Gold (Black gold), Dark Night (Dark night).

Description of appearance

Eddy Mitchell is a branchy shrub up to 0.6 meters high. With good care, the maximum value of this parameter reaches 0.85 meters. The width of the bush usually does not exceed 60 cm. Its stems are firm and strong. The leaves are rather large, dark green, with a glossy sheen and jagged edges.

Eddie Mitchell experts refer to the group of so-called "black" roses. The reason is the unusual color of its flowers: a shade of dark red velvet at the beginning and middle of flowering, it changes to almost black by the end of this growing season. At the same time, the reverse side of the petals is kept in milky yellow or even golden colors. The flowers of this variety are large: from 8 to 10, maximum - 12 cm. They have a pleasant, unobtrusive smell, which is almost not felt. The shape of the buds is goblet. They bloom one after another. From 1 to 3 flowers appear on one stem, but there are more, especially with age - up to 5-7 pieces per peduncle. The hybrid blooms profusely, almost continuously throughout the spring-summer period. Refers to multi-flowering varieties. The culture is not afraid of cold weather, has a high resistance to diseases of a bacterial and fungal nature, especially powdery mildew and black spot; to the rains.

Agrotechnical features

The plant should be placed in places where there is a lot of sunlight. However, exposure to direct light should be avoided to prevent unsightly burns on the petals and leaves. Eddie Mitchell belongs to the varieties of roses that, in principle, do well in partial shade. There should be normal air circulation in the area with a flower. This will help protect the plant from attacks by insect pests.

The best time for planting is late spring, a short period from late April to early May. But you can start planting a flower on your personal plot in the fall, the main thing is to do this some time before the start of frost. The soil for Eddy Mitchell should be chosen loose, fertile. It should be hydrated regularly, 2-3 times a week. Pour at least 1 bucket of lukewarm water under each bush at a time. With the onset of autumn, watering is reduced and completely stopped by mid-October.

Like any varietal flower, Eddie Mitchell needs periodic feeding. Fertilizers are applied under the rose bush from April to August inclusive, alternating organic matter saturated with nitrogen with mineral complexes rich in potassium and phosphorus. The first is necessary for good growth and development of culture, the second - for abundant flowering.

Regularly remove dead buds, dead and diseased shoots from the plant. Weed.

Use cases

Eddy Mitchell has every chance of becoming the queen of your flower garden if you sympathize with her.The variety will decorate a flower bed and any garden composition. Just keep in mind one nuance: so that the French diva stands out brightly against the background of other inhabitants of your garden and, especially, other varietal roses, combine it in plantings with plants that give flowers of lighter shades. Eddie Mitchell is also suitable for cutting. Velvet flowers can stand in a vase of water for more than 10 days without fading.
