History of origin

Eldorado belongs to the hybrid tea group of roses. It was bred in the USA by Howard & Smith florists in 1923. This is the result of crossing Mme Edouard Herriot with an unknown seedling. Currently, this variety of the queen of flowers is rightfully considered a classic. It got its name from the name of the mythical country of El Dorado, located, according to ancient Indian legends, in South America and rich in precious stones and gold. Apparently, the authors were forced to give the noble plant such a name because of the two-tone color of the buds, because of which the flowers seem to glow from the inside. The Spanish expression "El Dorado" means "golden" in translation. Another variety name: Land of Gold.

Description of appearance and features

Eldorado is a short (0.6-0.7 m, maximum 1 meter) compact shrub, not devoid of harmony and power. It is formed by erect shoots covered with shiny, elongated, bright green leaves with a glossy sheen. The rose bush grows 60 cm wide.

The buds that appear on the plant have a classic goblet shape. On each stem, there are from one to three. In the phase of complete dissolution, the flowers are rather large, rosette-shaped, 8-10 cm in diameter. The petals, which number in one bud from 35 to 45 pieces, are beautifully and neatly arranged. The color of the double flowers is double and very delicate. It harmoniously combines golden yellow, dark pink and salmon orange shades without abrupt transitions. Lighter highlights are visible at the edges of the petals. A light floral scent emanates from the lovely buds. The plant begins to bloom with the arrival of summer and pleases the eye with a wonderful outfit until the end of October. With proper care, Eldorado blooms profusely. The variety belongs to the re-flowering varieties of roses. In late autumn, fruits are formed in place of flowers.

Eldorado has many advantages:

  • good winter hardiness (the plant feels fine when the air temperature drops to -17 ° C);
  • high resistance of flowers to heavy rains (they retain their shape and brightness of colors despite precipitation);
  • medium resistance to bacterial and fungal diseases;
  • no negative influence of heat and summer sun on the color of flower petals (they do not fade and do not get burned).

Growing and care

A bright American woman can no doubt be placed in well-lit places. Alternative option: partial shade. But it is advisable to protect the beauty of Eldorado from drafts.

The shrub is unpretentious to the quality of the soil. It feels great on both fertile and shallow soils. However, it is still better to plant the culture in a substrate that is not devoid of nutrients. It is generally advisable to use soil for planting specifically for roses, or fertile loam. A layer of drainage material must be laid at the bottom of the planting pit. Water the plant well immediately after planting.

Regular watering and feeding are important for Eldorado. It is enough to moisten the soil under the flower 1-2 times a week throughout the growing season. After this procedure, loosening must be carried out. Fertilizers for the shrub are applied in the phase of the appearance of the first leaves (organic matter is used), at the stage of bud formation, at the beginning of flowering, in July and in the first decade of September (potassium-phosphorus concentrates are used).

Like any rose, the American beauty Eldorado is pruned. This event is held as standard in spring and autumn. In the first case, healthy shoots are shortened and old, diseased ones are removed. With the onset of cold weather, pruning is carried out in order to prepare the plant for wintering. It is better to cover the bush in order to protect it from frost.

To prevent the occurrence of black spot and powdery mildew on the crop, it will be necessary to spray the shrub with a fungicide solution several times over the summer.

Use cases

The Eldorado variety looks amazing in group plantings with other hybrid tea roses and flowering perennials. It can be placed in the foreground of the site, then it will attract maximum attention to itself. Landscape designers decorate Eldorado with rose gardens, park complexes. The variety is good in cutting. Its gorgeous buds can be seen in flower bouquets and baskets. Such a composition will be appropriate as a gift for a birthday, anniversary, wedding.
