Rose Kerio

Hybrid tea roses are considered real classics and are extremely popular all over the world. Color combinations in this class of varieties are countless. But the yellow varieties, for example Kerio, stand out with special brightness.

History of creation

Many rose-growing companies are engaged in breeding new hybrid tea beauties, including the Dutch Lex +. The undoubted achievements of this company include the Kerio rose (commercial name Kerio +). It was registered in 2002, the registration name Luxuries indicates a truly luxurious appearance of flowers. For her decorative qualities, our heroine is highly valued by gardeners in Russia and around the world. It is also known as Lexories.

Description

Straight bush, 60-70 cm high, up to 60 cm wide. The number of thorns on vertically growing shoots is average. Thanks to this, a bouquet of cut roses can be held in hands without fear. Leaves are medium in size, glossy, dark green, some sometimes have a burgundy hue. Stems are most often single-flowered, but shoots with inflorescences of 3-4 buds may appear.

The buds are graceful, classic goblet-shaped with a high and dense center. The middle remains unopened even in a fully blossoming flower. Quite large flowers reach 8-10 cm in diameter, sometimes 13 cm. Petals are dense, with well-defined, as if carved edges, matte. The color is warm, cheerful, rich yellow, looks advantageous against the background of foliage. Bright colors make Kerio inimitable and unique among other yellow-colored varieties of roses. In the opened state, a thin orange stripe appears along the edge of the petals. The bright color is quite persistent, persisting for a long time, but under the influence of intense sunlight, towards the end of flowering, it can fade to a light lemon, and then creamy color. The bud is terry, dense and resilient, with up to 35 petals.

Bloom

Kerio is a re-flowering species. The flowers open slowly, so the flowering process lasts a long time, and after it the petals do not crumble for a long time. The second wave can be as abundant and large-flowered as the first. To do this, you just need to properly cut the bush. Flowering can continue until frost.

Characteristics

  • The rose is quite winter hardy, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), its hardiness corresponds to zone 6. This means that the plant can easily winter at a temperature of -23.3 ° C;
  • resistance to precipitation above average. The petals do not lose their aesthetic appearance under the influence of rains, and they are not afraid of the wind either;
  • the aroma is poorly expressed, some connoisseurs pick up honey notes and a slight scent of lemon balm in it;
  • Kerio's immunity is very good, as evidenced by the numerous reviews of rose growers. The culture resists powdery mildew and black spot well, but in unfavorable years it can still get sick;
  • this variety is great for cutting. The long, strong stem and dense, poorly falling bud allow the bouquet to stay fresh for more than 10 days.

Agrotechnics

Despite the good resistance of the plant to unfavorable climatic factors, you need to choose a sunny place for planting, but with diffused penumbra during the period of greatest solar activity. A small amount of air in the area will help keep the spread of fungal diseases under control, but drafts should be avoided. The soil should be nutritious, loose, with neutral acidity. Caring for the variety is normal, including timely watering, feeding and pruning.The soil in the rose garden should be kept clean. Do not forget that a faded flower should be removed in a timely manner so that young buds can open in time. If the coming winter is predicted to be snowless and very cold, the bush should be covered.

Kerio is a very unpretentious rose that will not disappoint even a novice rose grower. The plant is used with pleasure in landscape design, planting in flower arrangements or singly. The variety shows good results in greenhouse forcing, where it is grown for sale - it is most in demand in flower shops. Positive feedback from florists speaks of the wide popularity of the plant due to its good winter hardiness and resistance to fungal diseases.

Rose Kerio appeared in my rose garden recently. As soon as she blossomed for the first time, she immediately captivated her with her beauty. True, in the first year after planting, the bush took root for a very long time, threw out a few buds and I was very afraid that it would not overwinter. But fortunately, everything worked out. And all thanks to the fact that for the winter I "wrapped up" the root zone, pouring a bump of earth around it.
In the spring, having cut off old shoots, I noticed several red arrows of young shoots with buds emerging from the ground. Interestingly, unlike some other varieties, the buds on these shoots were formed strictly one at a time. Therefore, I can recommend this variety to those who are engaged in floristry. In addition, both the buds and the already blossoming flowers fascinate with beautiful shapes.
Another positive point - the petals for a very long time, or rather, until the end of long flowering, retain a fresh, saturated and bright color. By the way, against the background of dark green and healthy leaves (the variety is very resistant to fungal diseases), Kerio looks just gorgeous. But there is also a small minus - the flowers do not smell.
The flowers do not need special care - to heal (I use ripe manure), to water during the summer drought, and in the fall - to cut off young shoots in time. The fact is that the rose loves to bloom profusely before frost, throwing out new shoots with buds and this makes it vulnerable.
