Rose Mozart (Mozart)
Among the many varieties of the flower queen, the group of musk roses stands out especially. It has a peculiar, but at the same time completely charming appearance, and also has special characteristics, which include the presence of a spicy aroma in flowers, their development in the brushes, the simultaneous blooming of all the buds on the bush and excellent frost resistance. Musk rose hybrids are also very attractive and hardy. A striking representative of this class of noble plants is the Mozart variety.
History of origin
Mozart appeared in 1927, and today it is one of the most popular varieties in this category. It was obtained by crossing two varieties: Robin Hood Musk Hybrid and Rote Pharisäer Hybrid Tea Rose. Bred by the German breeder Peter Lambert. In 1999 and 2000, the musk hybrid was named Best Classic Scrub by the American Rose Society. During the same period in the United States, the cultivar received awards from the Metropolitan Rose Society (1999) and the Pacific Northwest District (2000).
Description of appearance and features
Mozart belongs to the outstanding varieties of the musk rose group. It forms a vigorous, sprawling bush with a neat crown, reaching a height of 100-120 cm. In diameter, the size of a perennial can be at most 2 meters. The shoots of the rose bush are straight, tall, the leaves are elongated, leathery, medium-sized, colored dark green, with a shiny surface.
In the warm season, numerous small, pointed buds of a dark pink hue appear on the plant. They are collected in large brushes of 25−55 pieces and, when opened, are small in size: only 3-4 cm in diameter. The color of the delicate non-double flowers of the musk hybrid at the beginning of the dissolution phase is bright pink with an admixture of cherry dyes, and later becomes lighter. The core of each flower is snow-white, and the stamens are golden. By the way, it is they who exude an amazing, fresh aroma with light lemon notes. The buds consist of 4-8 petals. The plant always blooms profusely and for a long time, until stable frosts. Mozart is a multi-flowering variety. Moreover, in the fall, the perennial is simply strewn with flower caps that stay on the bush for a long time.
The variety is very hardy. Its leaves are incredibly resistant to bacterial and fungal diseases, and the shoots do not freeze when the air temperature drops to -30 ° C in winter. The flowers of the ornamental plant are resistant to precipitation, do not fade in the sun and do not bake in the summer heat. True, under the influence of prolonged rains, their appearance can deteriorate due to the flying around of thin petals and an increase in the risk of developing a fungal disease on the culture.
Growing and care
The place for Mozart should be chosen taking into account that he bask in the sun in the morning or evening hours, and not at the height of the day. You can plant a shrub in openwork partial shade. The maximum open space for placing a rose is not suitable, because, firstly, the leaves of a perennial in this case will inevitably acquire burns, and, secondly, a beautiful German woman will become a victim of drafts, which should not be allowed. It is also very undesirable to choose the lowland as a place for planting a plant.
As for the soil, the ideal soil for our heroine is fertile black soil. If you are using loamy or ordinary garden soil, fertilize it first with organic matter in order to increase the nutritional value. Make sure that the groundwater level in the area chosen for planting the crop is below 100 cm. Pay attention to the acidity of the soil - the substrate for the hybrid must be slightly acidic.
Caring for a fragrant hybrid is easy. Watering the plants is carried out regularly, up to twice a week in hot weather and once during the same period in moderately warm weather. The culture definitely needs feeding. They are seasonal: in the spring they use nitrogen fertilizers, in the summer - phosphorus-potassium concentrates.Without the use of dressings, it is almost impossible to achieve a lush flowering of a decorative perennial. Keep in mind: in the first year of life, it is better not to let the plant bloom, for which, during the entire warm season - until August - all the buds on the bush are removed. In the last summer month, a couple of flowers are left on each stem of Mozart, giving them the opportunity to turn into fruits with the arrival of autumn. This measure promotes good ripening and more abundant flowering of the rose the next year.
Mozart pruning should be done in the spring and fall. It is carried out only for sanitary purposes. Remember, though, a musky hybrid doesn't like heavy pruning. Because of it, the plant may even die. During the summer, it is important to remove faded inflorescences from the bush in time to give the musky beauty the opportunity to bloom almost without interruption.
Only the culture cultivated in the southern region does not require shelter for the winter. When growing an ornamental perennial in the middle lane and northern regions, the bush is insulated without fail. Rose is quite enough for a comfortable wintering of spruce branches. The main thing is not to forget to spud the shrub with dry soil after the autumn pruning.
Use cases
Mozart can be placed in single and group plantings. In the southern regions, it is allowed to be cultivated as a climbing rose, which will decorate an arch, a pergola, a gazebo. In addition, the culture is not forbidden to grow as a scrub. A decorative perennial looks appropriate both under tall trees with an openwork crown, and against the background of tall evergreens. A musky hybrid looks fresh, natural and beautiful in combination with miniature conifers, especially dwarf spherical thujas, boxwood, undersized varieties of juniper, mountain pines. If you plant the bushes of a wonderful variety in a row, you can get a fabulously beautiful hedge that blooms throughout the summer season. A single shrub will attract admiring glances if it is placed at the front entrance to a garden or house. Other places suitable for this variety: near the facade of the dwelling, in the background of the site. Large-flowered roses look great against the backdrop of the charming beauty Mozart. For a perennial cultivated as a climbing variety, clematis and tea hybrids will be excellent neighbors.
