Rose Red Naomi

The creators of new varieties of roses are real artists at heart. Otherwise, it is simply not possible to translate into reality that refined beauty that we admire in our garden or in the windows of flower shops. Not so long ago, a new favorite appeared in the flower world. Her name is Red Naomi. In a short time, she was able to become the most popular among cut roses with red flowers. But at the same time, it also showed excellent characteristics that allow it to be grown as a garden culture.

History of creation

The Netherlands is the main supplier of flowers worldwide. But the country not only grows colorful and fragrant goods. Many florist companies are developing new varieties and giving them a start in life. One of them, a fairly well-known rose-growing company Schreurs, became the birthplace of our heroine, the hybrid tea variety Red Naomi. Peter Schreurs was inspired by the famous model Naomi Campbell to create the variety that has conquered millions of human hearts. The novelty was introduced to the rose market in 2006 as "Red Naomi!" Currently, it is one of the most sought-after varieties for cutting. In the greenhouse, the rose is very productive - about 200 flowers per 1 square meter.

Description

The bush is upright, slightly spreading. Height in temperate climates is from 80 to 100 cm, in the south the plant grows up to 130 cm, diameter 40 - 70 cm. Shoots are straight, strong, chiseled, thorns are practically absent. The number of side shoots is average, the foliage is good. The color of young twigs and leaves is reddish. Leaves are medium in size, dark green, with a smooth, matte surface. Basically, one elegant bud appears on each stem of Red Naomi, but sometimes an inflorescence of three forms.

The appearance of the rose is fully consistent with the image of the famous supermodel. The Red Naomi flower is sophisticated and kind of unique. The bud is elegant, goblet, dense, 4.5 - 6 cm high. The flower is densely doubled, consists of 55 - 75 petals, neatly and tightly twisted in a spiral, and rather large - its size is 11 - 13 cm. In the half-release stage, the flower retains a conical or goblet shape. At the stage of complete dissolution, it acquires an open cup-shaped shape, a yellow center is visible. The color of the beautiful variety is considered one of the most exquisite. The petals collected in a bud are dark cherry, with almost black edges. As they dissolve, the petals acquire a deep ruby color, which is emphasized by the velvety texture of the petal. It is this color that many rose growers call the ideal red color.

Flowering period

Our heroine belongs to the continuously blooming, although a slight decline in bloom still takes place. But despite this, the rose bush is constantly covered with buds and flowers throughout the season. Flowering begins in June. In July, there is a slight decline, lasting about 10-14 days, but after it comes the second wave of flowering, no less abundant than the first and continues until the onset of stable cold weather, that is, almost until November. Petals from withering flowers do not crumble, but dry up right on the shoot, so the soil under the bush is always clean. But you need to cut off the faded heads regularly in order to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the bush, and to help the plant not to waste energy in vain. Red Naomi has one thing - in addition to her exhilarating appearance, she has an incredible, delicate scent. While most of the cut types are deprived of this advantage.

Characteristics

  • Like most hybrid teas, Red Naomi prefers a warm and moderately dry climate. Recommended for cultivation in USDA Zone 6 (USDA system). Winter temperatures should not exceed -23.3 ° C. The Krasnodar Territory and the Crimea are excellent for growing this rose. The variety has taken root in the Moscow region;
  • immunity is quite high. There is good resistance to powdery mildew and black spot.But it is still worth fearing these diseases in unfavorable years. There is information that the young plant still suffers from powdery mildew, but the fungus does not cause serious damage;
  • resistance to rain is average. In general, Red Naomi flowers are not afraid of moisture, but if the period of prolonged rains is accompanied by a cold snap, problems may arise;
  • an important plus - in hot weather, on a healthy adult bush, the flowers are not prone to shrinking;
  • but, as rose growers noticed, the bush, along with strong shoots, suddenly gives out weak ones, small flowers form on them;

  • despite its apparent fragility, the rose, thanks to its elastic buds and strong leg, perfectly tolerates transportation over long distances. Therefore, it is recognized as one of the best export options;
  • not only on the bush, the flowers are able to maintain their excellent shape and color for a long time. In the Red Naomi vase, the fragrance will last up to 16 days.

Planting and leaving

Spring planting is recommended in the Moscow region, while autumn planting is preferable in warm regions. Do not plant Red Naomi seedlings in peat bogs, heavy clay soils. The groundwater level should be below the 1 meter mark. Before planting, dig a hole 50 cm deep and the same width. Lay drainage at the bottom and fill with nutritious soil. The site should be well lit by the sun, when grown in the shade, the color of the flowers becomes too dark. It is also advisable to protect the rose bush from the wind prevailing in winter. Watering is carried out as needed, the plant does not like excess moisture. During the flowering period, universal fertilizers are used, with a predominance of phosphorus and potassium. As a cut variety, our heroine is grown in greenhouses, where she is able to show excellent results. But in protected ground, it is important to maintain a level of soil and air moisture that does not exceed the permissible values. At high humidity, fungal infections develop, at low humidity, damage by pests, for example, a spider mite, is possible. In the open field for the winter, the trunk circle can be insulated with sand or peat.

Red Naomi, despite her majestic beauty, is not at all fussy. The plant is unpretentious in care, responds well to care. The rose blooms profusely and for a long time, the flowers are capable of pleasing the eye with a rich color for a long time. Potential disease problems can be prevented by preventive spraying. Pruning is carried out according to the standard scheme. By and large, no serious drawbacks have been identified during the cultivation of Red Naomi.

The magnificent red color, surprisingly graceful flower shape and a long shoot were highly appreciated by florists, therefore our heroine is the most frequently used variety for composing a bouquet, decorating a banquet hall, and floristic compositions. In the garden, Red Naomi can solo, even in a single planting, a bright and abundant flowering plant is impossible to miss. But it can also look harmonious with other flowering or green-leaved plants, because the red color is successfully combined with many other colors and shades.
