Rose Soul (Soul)

Although the rose is called the queen of flowers, few varieties of this noble plant have a truly regal appearance. However, the Soul variety is quite worthy of such a high title. This is a novelty of German breeding, which, nevertheless, managed to win the favor of European flower growers.

History of creation and description of the variety

Soul was created in 2009 in the famous Tantau kennel by its head - breeder Christian Evers. The introduction of the variety into culture happened quite recently - in the 2014th year. A year later, the variety received the ADR quality mark, at the same time it was awarded by the Royal National Rose Society in St. Albans (UK). In addition, he won the Rose of the Year 2018 award from the Society of Friends of the German Rose.

Our heroine is a strong, vigorous, branched shrub with a height of 1 to 1.5 meters. Scrub-forming numerous strong shoots and bright green, with a glossy sheen foliage give the plant splendor and incredible density. On each stem, 3-5 densely double, nostalgic flowers of medium size (8-10 cm in diameter) appear. The flower shape of this variety is a rosette-shaped bowl, characterized by larger lower and smaller inner petals, the number of which in each bud reaches 45 pieces. In the phase of full disclosure, the core of the flower is noticeable, decorated with a bunch of golden stamens. It looks very impressive, considering that the color of the inflorescences in the old style is deep red-purple with a purple tint. The flowers of the German aristocrat exude a strong, delicious scent.

Soul belongs to the re-flowering varieties. This luxurious rose is quite frost-resistant (the shoots of the shrub do not freeze when the air temperature drops to -23 ° C), it boasts excellent immunity to diseases (especially black spot and powdery mildew) and insect pests. Its flowers do not lose their decorative effect at all under the influence of precipitation. The only drawback of Soul is the appearance of burns on delicate flower petals under the influence of direct rays of the summer sun.

Features of agricultural technology

It is better to grow the culture in partial shade, on hills, in places where cold drafts will not damage the plant. Absolutely not suitable for placing a decorative perennial in lowlands and areas of a site with a high level of groundwater. The soil for the shrubs needs fertile, drained, light, with a slightly acidic reaction. It is planted in the spring. To do this, a hole is dug at the selected site with a depth of about 0.6 meters. At the bottom of the hole, a layer of pebbles or gravel about 10 cm thick is laid. Next, organic fertilizer is introduced into the depression, which is covered with soil mixture. A seedling is lowered into the planting hole, its root system is sprinkled with soil, after having straightened the roots of the plant. As a result of this procedure, the perennial root collar should be below ground level by a couple of centimeters. The soil around the rose is compacted, the seedling is watered at the root. The land in the zone of the near-trunk circle must be mulched.

Caring for Soul involves, first of all, regular watering. To carry out them, a little warmed up in the sun and necessarily settled water is required. Moisten the soil under the flower at intervals of 1-2 times a month. The right time for this is evening. The plant needs feeding. In the spring, nitrogen fertilizers are shown to the rose bush, helping to build up green mass. Closer to the beginning of the budding period, the culture is provided with a phosphorus-potassium concentrate. Effectively water the Soul with herbal decoctions and infusions, thanks to which the plant will receive useful trace elements and vitamins. In the fall, feeding is stopped, and watering is reduced.

The rose also needs weeding and loosening of the soil. Mulching the soil around the flower should not be neglected. Peat or humus, as well as dry grass, can be used as mulch. Pruning is a must for culture. In the spring, it is of a sanitary nature and consists in the removal of damaged, dry, too thin shoots. In summer, faded inflorescences are promptly removed from the plant in order to stimulate the appearance of new buds. Autumn pruning affects all branches of the shrub, as it prepares the crop for wintering. Covering the scrub with the onset of cold weather should be spruce branches or agrospan.

Use cases

Soul goes well with other scrubs and vintage roses. They also include it in mixed compositions, where daylilies, delphinium, mock-orange, rhododendron, spiraea, irises, lilies, clematis, phlox, hydrangea, buddley become good companions for a perennial. The owner of rich dark red flowers surrounded by conifers, decorative deciduous and large-leaved plants is very beautiful; crops whose inflorescences are in red, yellow, blue, purple, lilac, pink or white. This shrub is appropriate in rose gardens, front gardens, flower beds, parks. It is used to create hedges, alleys, decorate the front entrance to a house or garden, to plant in mixborders and rabatki, near garden stairs, swings and gazebos. It is not forbidden to cultivate Soul as a container plant.
